The Role: The Lead Product Design role is a contract position, reporting to the Head Of Design in Sydney. As a Lead Product Designer, you’ll be working with senior product and tech folk helping take a new product to market. You'll be steering your team through solution discovery, prototyping with code, testing your ideas with customers, then partnering with engineering to take your designs to market. We’re looking for designers who are skilled and experienced throughout the whole product lifecycle, and hungry to ship their ideas. You’ll work in close partnership with product managers and software engineers in a cross functional team, to craft beautiful, simple, intuitive user experiences for our global software platform. Your designs will be used by customers in 130 countries, and help accelerate the world’s shift to clean energy.
What you’ll be doing:
- End-to-End Design: Execute design work across the full lifecycle: from framing up problems, exploring solutions, then shipping world class products to customers.
- Problem Solving: Balancing business goals with what users actually need, and figuring out the best way to make both work together.
- Interface Design & Prototyping with AI: Creating high fidelity designs and prototypes. Prototyping is one of our team’s most valued skills.
- UX Thinking: Visualising flows, systems, and structures that underpin the product and help the team understand the layers of the problem space.
- Product Thinking: Thinking deeply about driving adoption, retention and business outcomes.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Testers to build, ship and iterate on designs which achieve a high level of craft.
- Design Research & Product Discovery: Collaborate with UX researchers, and conduct your own research, to understand user behaviours, needs, and pain points, and evaluate the products we design and ship.
- Presentation: Participate in design reviews and present design concepts to stakeholders, providing clear rationale and incorporating feedback to iterate on, and improve, designs.
- Mentoring: Helping the Head of Design to review work, guiding other designers through projects, while driving quality and consistency in the teams’ output.
What you’ll need:
- Experience: 5-7+ years of professional experience in UX/product design. You have a track record leading design on key projects, and are comfortable working with senior stakeholders on the executive team. Ideally you have some experience taking products from zero to one, or working in start ups.
- Proficiency Leveraging AI In The Design Process: You're adept at using AI to explore research, prototype and even ship your ideas.
- Mobile Expertise: You’ve worked on consumer platforms, creating simple, beautiful apps.
- Motion Graphics: Able to get your hands dirty with motion graphics and data visualisation, and proficiency with AfterEffects / Rive / Lottie.
- Portfolio: A strong portfolio that demonstrates problem solving abilities, design craft and business impact.
- UX Fundamentals: A solid grounding in interaction design, information architecture and user centred design.
- Visual Design Skills: The ability to inject a high level of craft in everything you create, marrying utility with beauty.
- Design Research Experience: Experience collaborating with UX researchers during early stages of discovery, and conducting your own evaluative research during the design phase.
- Tool Proficiency: Equally confident prototyping in code (with AI) or in Figma and are adept at working with design systems.
- Technical Understanding: Solid understanding of front-end web technologies and how they influence feasibility.
- Communication: Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Mission Alignment: A passion for climate and a desire to personally make an impact on decarbonising the world.
