Radio Engineer

Major Provider of Radio Systems

Based out of Manchester.

Salary £35-40K Basic + Car/Car Allowance + Benefits.

The Company

Being one of the UK’s independent communications suppliers, specialising in the design, supply, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of wireless voice and data networks. Our client has significant growth plans, making this a great time to join the business. Each staff member is trained by leading manufacturers to the highest standards and provided with the latest DMR and Tetra test sets to ensure even the newest equipment can be repaired to component level. With continued expansion, they are now seeking a Field Radio Engineer to join this thriving business.

The Role

You will work within the dedicated engineering team, responsible for providing bespoke technical solutions for customers and SME on all Radio Engineering tasks.

Role Includes:

  • Design and build of bespoke technical solutions aligned with customer requirements.
  • Providing technical assurance to customers.
  • Preparation of CODEPLUGS/FLEET Plans for customer requirements (Motorola & Hytera).
  • Installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of telecommunication equipment from various vendors: Hytera, Motorola, Tait, Simoco, Kenwood, and Icom.
  • Site maintenance and servicing.
  • Fault management including log analysis, defect debugging, and workarounds.
  • Business support: customer needs analysis and presentation of new products.
  • Providing technical support for communication systems in major contracts.

Skills and Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in military or commercial radio communication.
  • RF propagation experience.
  • Strong IT skills, including database management, networking topologies, TCP/IP, and DMR/PMR software applications.
  • Current or previous security clearance (SC) with the ability to refresh as needed.
  • Experience in fault finding across various telecommunication platforms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • RF fault diagnostics skills.
  • Broader technical skills, especially in designing bespoke solutions.

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of PMR programming software for Tait, Simoco, Motorola, Kenwood, Icom, and Hytera.
  • Experience with Trunk Radio (MPT1327) database management.
  • Ability to repair COTS radios down to component level.
