Role Overview

Taking responsibility for defining and delivering high‑quality digital experiences across healthcare and pharmaceutical projects, the UX/UI Lead bridges strategy, design and delivery, ensuring that experiences are intuitive, scientifically accurate and effective in real‑world contexts. Owning end‑to‑end user experience, from discovery and planning through to wireframing, prototyping and UX governance, the UX/UI Lead ensures digital solutions are user‑centric, visually appealing and aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Defining UX strategy across initiatives, ensuring alignment with user needs, business goals and regulatory requirements
  • Translating complex medical and scientific content into clear, intuitive and engaging experiences
  • Developing user journeys, information architecture, and interaction models that support understanding and usability
  • Leading discovery activities, including workshops to define users, needs and features, and producing user stories, personas and key journey flows
  • Creating wireframes, prototypes and interaction designs across a range of formats, including web, mobile and large‑format touchscreens
  • Ensuring designs are optimised for real‑world use, including high‑pressure environments such as medical congresses
  • Embedding accessibility and usability best practices throughout the design process
  • Iterating designs based on feedback and user testing
  • Establishing UX standards, patterns and frameworks to ensure consistency and quality across projects
  • Working closely and collaboratively with UI designers, developers and account teams to ensure the feasibility, clarity and accuracy of outputs
  • Advocating for user‑centred design principles throughout the organization, promoting deep understanding of user needs and preferences
  • Building and maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of the healthcare market creative trends and innovations and sharing insights to support business needs and growth
  • Driving quality, efficiency and delivery of projects on time and to budget
  • Ensuring team adherence to all external laws, policies and guidelines
  • Providing creative consultancy services and upskilling internal teams to ensure content and experiences are delivered in a creative and innovative way without exception
  • Leading effective training for junior team members in skills, processes and software
  • Addressing short‑ and long‑term resource needs through acquisition and mobilisation of staff and contractors
  • Driving recruitment initiatives to ensure optimal team structure and complement
  • Directing day‑to‑day resourcing and workflow in collaboration with Creative Services Managers

Line Management (optional)

  • Providing and overseeing the provision of effective line management, supporting the career and personal development of assigned line reports and department members
  • Ensuring all line reports and department members undergo performance review and have appropriate objectives and development plans in place
  • Rapidly addressing under‑performance and initiating active management plans to support individuals, as required

Candidate Profile – Skills, Competencies and Experience

  • Extensive experience in a senior or lead UX role, shaping both approach and execution, with a portfolio showcasing successful projects and user‑centred design principles
  • Expertise in UX design within healthcare or regulated environments, with a proven ability to translate complex scientific content into usable digital experiences; patient engagement experience highly beneficial
  • Expertise in wireframing and prototyping tools, such as Figma, essential
  • Solid understanding of accessibility standards and usability principles
  • Extensive experience designing across multiple platforms and formats
  • Familiarity with behavioural science principles and UX laws
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills
  • Ability to foster cross‑functional team alignment
  • Excellent project management skills, including ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and manage resources effectively
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey design concepts and rationale to diverse audiences
