Reports to the Senior or Principal Medical Writer. Medical content development encompasses a range of deliverables including strategy/planning, conferences, advisory boards, and interactive content. This is a fantastic role, working with a team that partners with a growing portfolio of leading pharma clients across rare disease and oncology therapeutic areas.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that quality control is paramount within all materials produced across the business.
  • Developing written materials (for subsequent review by Lead / Senior Medical Writer) in line with client requirements (internal/external), timelines, Open Health Medical Communications editorial policy, ABPI Code of Practice and key product messages.
  • May include editing as well as writing.
  • Ensuring all written material is appropriately pitched, on brief when delivered, delivered on time, fully referenced and, where applicable, abides by the ABPI Code of Practice.
  • Attending conferences / advisory board meetings with Lead / Senior Medical Writer and developing the first draft of reports for review.
  • Coordinating effectively with appropriate members of the Open Health Medical Communications team.
  • Ensuring line manager and accounts team, where appropriate, are continually updated on project progress.
  • Developing an understanding of the various client brands and disease areas.
  • Undertaking or directing research into therapy areas, as needed.
  • Liaising with authors / advisors (including attending face-to-face meetings), with the support of a Lead / Senior Medical Writer.

Experience, Skills, And Qualifications

  • Experience as an Associate Medical Writer or Medical Writer in a medcomms, healthcare agency or pharma environment.
  • Thorough understanding of the client's therapeutic area and ability to provide strategic input.
  • Strong understanding of science and medicine, the healthcare environment and the medical education/communications industry.
  • Manager, trainer, delegator.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Approachability.
  • Significant experience in a healthcare agency or pharmaceutical company role.
  • Excellent project management and analytical skills.
  • Financial acumen.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise; excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Sound understanding of the ABPI Code of Practice.
