The Open Door Charity is looking for a Treasurer to ensure the secure running of the charity’s financial affairs; providing trustees with updates and advice on the Charity’s finances; overseeing day to day transactions and financial records; and preparing annual accounts and returns.
This is a rewarding opportunity to use your financial or administrative skills to make a real difference to a local service, while building your experience of trusteeship and strategic management.
What are we looking for?
- Ability to understand and interpret financial information.
- Knowledge of basic accounting or financial management principles.
- Understanding of (or willingness to learn) duties of a charity trustee under UK law.
- Integrity, reliability, and commitment to the charity’s mission.
- Experience in charity finance, accounting, or business finance.
- Experience using accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
- Understanding of Charity accounting SORP and reporting requirements, and Gift Aid processes.

What will you be doing?
We are a local charity supporting people who are homeless in the St Albans area. Collectively, the trustees form the Board of the Open Door Charity, setting the strategic direction for the charity and maintaining governance.
Given the Charity only has one employee (the Volunteer, Publicity and Fundraising Coordinator - working on a part-time basis), trustees on occasion will provide hands-on support in progressing charity projects & initiatives.
