Role Specification
As our Accounts Assistant, you will support the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring accurate processing, timely reporting, and excellent internal service. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their finance career who wants to develop their skills and gain exposure to a wide range of accounting tasks in a lean finance team. Within this role, you will work closely with the Financial Controller to ensure a smooth and efficient approach to processing financial transactions and accounting. You will tackle your daily tasks with enthusiasm, curiosity and a desire to make continuous improvements. You will demonstrate excellent teamwork skills, whilst also working from your own initiative. You will be prepared to pitch in and support others with queries and other tasks, taking a solution-focused approach. This is a role where you will need to be adaptable to change and eager to learn, relishing new challenges as our business grows and evolves.
Key responsibilities
- Processing purchase invoices and reconciling supplier statements
- Preparing supplier payment runs
- Processing employee expense claims
- Administration of company credit cards
- Managing the accounts inbox and responding to queries
- Calculation and posting of accruals and prepayments
- Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Inventory reporting and assisting with stock counts
- Maintaining the Fixed Asset Register
- Posting bank payments and reconciliations
Essential qualifications
- 2-3 years’ experience in accounting/bookkeeping
- Confidence using accounting software and Excel (including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, etc.)
- Knowledge of VAT treatment
- Accounting qualification (e.g. AAT) or interest in studying toward it (supported)
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Strong attention to detail and good numerical skills
- Able to commute daily to our modern Bristol City Centre office
Desirable qualifications
- Experience with Netsuite or similar ERP software
- Familiarity with foreign currency operations
- Experience working in a start-up company
