We are currently seeking a Prosthetist who is looking for an opportunity to develop their career at our service based in Roehampton. Working alongside a large team of clinicians, the role will involve working with a complex clinical case load and will be instrumental in developing and implementing service improvements for the betterment of patients in Roehampton. Opcares Roehampton Prosthetic services based in Queen Marys Hospital works with a mixture of inpatient and outpatient services often supporting patients with complex needs. We aim to deliver a first-class service for users whilst applying the most advanced clinical and technical solutions available to patients.
Main duties of the job
- Ensure the delivery of high quality care for all patients and the smooth running of the service.
- Working closely with MDTs.
- Inputting and leading on initiatives within the service development plan.
- Conduct comprehensive assessment of patients to determine their orthotic needs.
- Develop and implement personalised orthotic treatment plans.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in orthotic technology and practices.
- Provide excellent patient care, education, and support throughout the treatment process.
- Assessing, measuring, casting, fitting, supplying, reviewing and adjusting orthoses as required.
- Maintaining appropriate clinical notes.
Skills & Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years work experience.
- Demonstrated experience of complex casework in adult and paediatric care.
- Self-starter with a flexible and pro-active approach.
- Ability to build strong working relationships through effective verbal and written communication.
Qualifications:
- The successful candidate must possess one of the following qualifications:
- Certified Orthotist
- HND Orthotics
- BSc Orthotics
And in addition, must have:
- Full HCPC Registration
- A valid UK Driving Licence
- The ability to meet the requirements of an Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) Check

Job responsibilities
The role holder will be an integral member of the senior clinical team and will provide mentoring support to less experienced prosthetists, graduates, and students. The prosthetic department at Queen Marys Hospital consists of a large MDT including prosthetists, orthotists, consultants, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, a psychologist and wider referring teams. The role holder will be instrumental in working closely with the prosthetic team to advance and improve the delivery of the service. At Roehampton, there is an emphasis on putting the patient first and a focus on improving the lives of individuals through innovation and service development. In addition to clinical work, the successful candidate will use evidence-based practice and undertake clinical audit in line with the requirements of clinical governance.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
- Use a range of shape capture methods to successfully fit and deliver prostheses in a timely manner.
- Mentor students, graduates and clinical apprentices.
- Support less-experienced colleagues.
- Treat all users with dignity keeping them informed on their prosthetic treatment and the basis for actions/advice.
- Lead by example and ensure the prosthetic clinical team is engaged with, and motivated to achieve, any patient and business-led objectives in place.
- Support and assist the clinical lead and assistant clinical lead with reporting tasks as required.
- Support the team to meet all KPI targets set throughout the year.
- To liaise with the Workshop Manager to address identified quality problems and assist in providing effective solutions, thus minimizing unnecessary wastage.
- Use IT systems such as REHAPP to correctly record patient details and to process orders/deliveries.
- Agree objectives with your manager and report regularly on progress.
- Practice within the code of ethics and guidelines of the HCPC.
- Participate in continuing professional development and ensure your CPD portfolio is maintained.
- Participate in clinical audit.

Skills & Personal Attributes:
- The position requires the job holder to possess:
- Proven practical experience working successfully as a Prosthetist with all levels of limb difference.
- Upper limb experience preferred but not essential.
- Committed to the highest standards of patient care.
- Proven experience of working within high performing, collaborative teams.
- Ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships internally and externally.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Diplomatic but also assertive as required.
- Able to prioritise, plan and organise efficiently and work with multiple conflicting priorities.
- Robust judgement and ability to make sound decisions quickly and effectively in complex situations.
- Self-motivated and uses initiative.
- Good standard of literacy & numeracy.

- Remains calm under pressure.
- Have full DBS clearance.

- Must also be fully HCPC Registered
