About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Estimator to join our commercial team. As an Estimator you will play a key role in the tendering process, working closely with engineering, commercial, and operational teams to develop robust cost estimates for civil engineering projects in conjunction with our Clients. You will analyse project documentation, assess risks, liaise with suppliers and subcontractors, and contribute to winning work that aligns with the company’s strategic goals. The successful candidate will be mainly based at our Stocksfield Office (working on site as business needs require).
Key Responsibilities
- Tendering & Cost Estimation
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil engineering and infrastructure projects, including materials, labour, equipment, and other resources.
- Analyse drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope.
- Develop accurate quantities, rates, and pricing structures.
- Provide detailed reports on costs and expenditures, helping ensure that projects are delivered within budget.
- Identify project risks, opportunities, and value engineering options.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, planners, and commercial teams to gather technical and operational input.
- Review and analyse tender documents, contracts, and drawings.
- Prepare and submit tenders and proposals to clients.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, architects, engineers, and suppliers to understand project scope and obtain competitive quotes.
- Participate in tender review meetings and provide clear justification for pricing decisions.
- Commercial & Technical Insight
- Maintain up to date knowledge of market conditions, material costs, and industry trends.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, client requirements, and relevant legislation.
- Support the preparation of tender submissions, including written methodology and pricing breakdowns.
- Maintain and update detailed records of all estimates, contracts, and other project documentation.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience as an Estimator within civil engineering, preferably in renewable energy infrastructure, highways, or marine construction delivering projects exceeding £10m in value.
- Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure project components (earthworks, concrete, drainage, utilities, structures, etc.).
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Desirable
- Knowledge of NEC and other standard forms of contract.
