Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for projects based on architectural drawings, specifications, and other relevant information.
  • Develop detailed project budgets, including materials, labour, equipment, and overhead costs.
  • Monitor project costs throughout the process and identify areas where costs can be optimised.
  • Manage the tendering process, including preparing tender documents, evaluating bids, and negotiating contracts with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Source materials and services from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring competitiveness and adherence to project requirements.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers and subcontractors to facilitate efficient procurement processes.
  • Administer contracts, including preparing contract documents, variations, and claims.
  • Ensure that contracts are executed in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as client specifications.
  • Monitor contract performance and resolve any disputes or issues that may arise during the construction phase.
  • Implement cost control measures to ensure that projects are delivered within budgetary constraints.
  • Track project expenditure and prepare regular cost reports and forecasts for project stakeholders.
  • Analyze cost variances and identify potential risks or opportunities that may impact project profitability.
  • Measure and quantify construction work using appropriate measurement methods.
  • Prepare accurate valuations of completed work for interim and final payments to contractors and subcontractors.
  • Verify and certify payments to ensure compliance with contractual terms and conditions.
  • Identify and assess risks associated with projects, including cost overruns, delays, and contractual disputes.
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies to minimize the impact of risks on project outcomes.
  • Collaborate with project teams to implement risk management measures and monitor their effectiveness.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor\’s degree in quantity surveying, construction management, or a related field.
  • Chartered status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS/CICES) or working towards chartered status is preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor with water/ wastewater experience.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost management principles.
  • Proficiency in quantity surveying software and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
