We are seeking BSL Interpreters across the UK to provide interpreting services for deaf students whose first or preferred language is BSL. The role aims to ensure equal access to the curriculum and academic environment by offering communication and note-taking support tailored to individual student needs and programme requirements.
Responsibilities include delivering communication support based on a thorough understanding of student disabilities, medical conditions, dyslexia screening data, medical evidence, and DSA Needs Assessments. Interpreters will also support students during assessments, translating written English into BSL and vice versa, and liaising with academic staff to modify and differentiate learning materials and delivery styles.
Hours will be arranged based on availability, with Onyx Support seeking to provide as many hours as possible.

Mandatory Qualifications
- Qualification in a NRCPD-approved course for sign language interpreters or interpreters for deafblind people (see Appendix 1 from NRCPD website)
- CACDP Registered Qualified Sign Language Interpreters exam (CACDP RQSLI)
- VLP/SASLI/RBSLI/NRCPD registered Sign Language Interpreter
- VLP/SASLI/RBSLI/NRCPD registered trainee sign language interpreter
- NRCPD registered Interpreter for Deafblind People
Note: VLP = Visual Language Professionals; SASLI = Scottish Association of Sign Language Interpreters; RBSLI = Regulatory Body for Sign Language Interpreters & Translators; NRCPD = National Register of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind People.
Qualifications equivalent to Level 6 on the QCF, such as the Signature Level 4 NVQ in BSL/ISL or Level 4 NVQ in Interpreting (BSL/English), are accepted if obtained prior to the 2010 framework revision. Proof of qualification is required.
