We are looking for a talented and driven graduate engineer to join us here at ONYX. Contributing directly to the research, testing, and delivery of our next-generation hardware and sensing products. You will be hands-on across the full product lifecycle — from research, concept design, prototyping and validation through to manufacturing support, installation, and customer trials. Working closely with engineering, supply chain, SHEQ, and global delivery teams, you’ll help solve real-world hardware challenges, develop robust sensing and data acquisition solutions, and ensure our products are reliable, scalable, and ready for deployment in demanding environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Hardware research
- Research and test new solutions to hardware problems (e.g. relating to data acquisition systems; sensors technologies; data flow and installation)
- Mechanical design of test fixtures and product components
- Evaluate and test wireless communications solutions (e.g. wifi, LoRa, satellite and cellular solutions)
- Assemble and test prototype equipment
- Support the manufacturing of new products and handover to the Supply Chain team
- Support the delivery of pilot projects and customer trials or new products
- Develop test plans and test specifications for hardware and sensor products
- Design and construct test apparatus when needed
- Run in-house testing when appropriate (e.g. functional testing and soak testing of hardware products)
- Develop work instructions for the installation of hardware products
- Work with global Engineering teams to optimise the installation process
- Work with SHEQ Manager to create risk assessments for R&D and testing activities
- Develop specifications for installation hardware
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, electronics, physics or similar discipline
- Strong practical skills, demonstrated through previous projects (e.g. during extracurricular work and/or hobby projects)
- A self-starter, driven to develop new solutions to technical problems
- Outstanding communication skills, able to collaborate with colleagues remotely
- A quick learner with the ability to acquire a deep understanding of hardware and software products
- Experience using mechanical and/or electrical CAD software would be a benefit
- Experience using single board computers and sensors would be a benefit (e.g. Raspberry Pi, Arduino, etc.)
- Software development experience would be a benefit (e.g. python, C++, etc.)
