About The Role
We are looking for a Sustainability Officer to join our Property Strategy Team on a permanent basis. The purpose of the role is to assist the Asset Data Lead in gathering, analysing, and interpreting data to support the implementation of Onwardās Sustainability Strategy and contribute to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting.
Analysing Data
Develop and run data queries to extract and analyse information across the organisation in support of sustainability initiatives and lead on the collation and organisation of data for Sustainability Action Plans and ESG reporting. Utilise software tools to prioritise future retrofit programmes and coordinate assessments; assist in drafting funding bids for review.
Improving Efficiencies
Improve the efficiency and accuracy of data collection, analysis, and reporting processes and produce comprehensive quantitative and qualitative reports to inform sustainability-related decision-making. Establish and maintain robust reporting systems to provide regular performance updates.
Supporting Bids
Prepare and support bids for new sustainability funding projects, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and funding criteria. Contribute to the development and publication of Onwardās annual ESG/Sustainability Report.
Partnership Working
Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure data collection and reporting comply with internal standards and legislative requirements. Represent Onward at regional sustainability steering groups across Liverpool, Manchester, and Lancashire. Deliver high standards of customer service and communication in all aspects of the role.
Skills/Experience
Essential:
- Experience of working in fast-paced environments and meeting tight deadlines.
- Proven background in data analysis and reporting, ideally within a social housing context.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality service.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the use of formulas, pivot tables, and data visualisation.
- Proficiency in database management and IT systems.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
- Self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
Qualifications
Essential:
Undergraduate degree in a relevant subject such as: Environmental Science, Sustainability, Geography, Data Science, Environmental Engineering, Social Policy (with sustainability modules), Asset Management or Building Surveying (with a sustainability focus).
Desirable
Postgraduate qualification (e.g. MSc, PGDip) in: Sustainability and Environmental Management, Climate Change and Policy, Data Analytics or Business Intelligence, Urban Planning with a sustainability emphasis
Professional certifications (any of the following would be advantageous): IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management (Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment), ESG Reporting Frameworks (e.g. GRI, SASB, or TCFD).
