Operations Manager – Housing Repairs
Based from our Watson Building (Liverpool) office, the successful candidate will have direct responsibility for in‑house trade colleagues operating across Merseyside and Wirral. The role involves working closely within our neighbourhood teams across the region, with occasional opportunities for home working.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivery & Quality: Manage day‑to‑day repairs teams to deliver quality, customer‑focused services that provide excellent value for money; support delivery of a plan and continuous improvements and efficiency.
- Resources: Manage productivity and work‑planning systems to ensure robust use of all resources including supply chain; identify improvements and support direct reports.
- Financial & Value for Money: Ensure key operational and financial targets are achieved; support identification and implementation of new business or operational areas.
- Health & Safety: Ensure safe working methods, adherence to health and safety measures, and that operatives are suitably qualified and trained.
- Systems: Maintain appropriate systems and controls that support delivery of projects, continuous improvement, and risk monitoring.
- Management, Leadership and Culture Change: Manage budgets, resources and priorities; drive culture change based on Onward values.
- Partnership Working: Identify, build and develop an extensive network of internal and external partnerships; act as an ambassador for the organisation.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Experience managing a similar construction trade‑based maintenance business.
- Proven ability to deliver a quality customer‑centred repairs service.
- Commercial knowledge and understanding.
- Effective management of productivity, resource and work‑planning.
- Effective supply‑chain management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven influence on senior stakeholders and customers.
- Experience managing and leading a high‑performance team within a diverse organisation.
Qualifications – Essential
- (HNC) in Building or Construction Relevant.
- IOSH Health and Safety qualification or experience.
Qualifications – Desirable
- BSc Building and Construction or Level 6.
- CIOB, Chartered Surveyor or equivalent qualification.
- Recognised trade qualification.
