About The Role:
Grounds Maintenance Supervisor on a permanent basis. Based in Greater Manchester, local team work; not required to report to a depot each day but attend team meetings and supply replenishment as needed. Provide high‑class grounds maintenance service, excellent customer service, respond to enquiries on site and remotely, take remedial action to meet quality standards.
Responsibilities:
- Line Management: Manage grounds maintenance teams to complete works to agreed schedules and specifications on estates and schemes.
- Operational Cover: Provide cover as required, performing duties of a grounds maintenance operative.
- Pest & Hazardous Substances: Manage pest control, hazardous substances and waste management, performance management of in‑house teams and contractors through safety audits and quality checks.
- Resources Management: Manage internal resources efficiently; allocate plant, equipment, vehicles, materials; deliver training and tool‑box talks.
- Health & Safety: Adopt safe methods of work; ensure colleagues are qualified and trained; maintain compliance records; review and create risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Partnership Working: Identify, build and develop internal and external partnerships to meet objectives.
- Reporting: Prepare reports, minutes and other written communication; investigate and report on health and safety incidents and customer complaints; estimate costs and service charges; prepare work instructions for teams.
- Customer Service: Attend resident and partner meetings (including evenings and weekends). Deliver excellent customer service by listening and responding to enquiries.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge of best practice in environmental services, grounds maintenance and cleaning.
- Working knowledge of horticulture.
- Track record of working under pressure, meeting deadlines and hitting KPIs in a customer‑facing role.
- Experience thriving in a team context, maintaining excellent relationships.
- Effective communication with customers, colleagues and external organisations.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities.
- Professional and flexible approach.
- IT skills – Microsoft Office.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge of contract management.
- Experience supervising an operational grounds maintenance and cleaning team.
Essential Qualifications:
- Relevant Lantra competencies in horticultural machinery and equipment.
Desirable Qualifications:
- GCSE standard or equivalent.
- PA1, PA6 qualifications.
- Level 3 or above in horticulture/ environmental management.
