About The Role

We are looking for a General Building Technician to join our Onward Repairs team on a permanent basis. The role involves delivering property maintenance services in line with group standards and key performance indicators, ensuring high standards, observing all legal, statutory and regulatory requirements while undertaking repair activities including ground work, building work and roofing within customers’ homes, voids and for other clients as required.

The ideal candidate has proven experience in flagging, brickwork and fencing and can carry out these tasks to a high standard.

Responsibilities

Delivery

In line with Repairs specification or approved best practice assess, coordinate and undertake the most cost-effective repair solution delivering value for money. Organise materials, provide detailed information, communicate effectively with customers, stakeholders and colleagues to deliver a high quality service. Ensure an adequate store of materials for operatives, including van-based stock. Proactively organise workload to ensure efficient and effective service delivery at all times.

Liaison and technical advice

Liaise with clients, customers and colleagues regarding access, safe working practices, assessment of repairs requirements and progress of repairs.

Records

Complete jobs on PDAs and maintain other records as required including access details, materials used, job progression and follow-on information.

Health and Safety

Undertake work activities in line with all health and safety requirements, demonstrating sound knowledge of key legislative health and safety information and safe working practices. Assist promotion of health & safety.

Work equipment

Operate light machinery, plant and powered hand tools in accordance with recognised safety procedures. Responsible for safe use and daily maintenance of allocated company vehicles.

Skills

Essential

  • Sound knowledge of building construction, components, building trades and applicable building regulations.
  • Experience of working in a customer-focused service.
  • Proven ability to deliver a quality customer-centred repair service.
  • Experience of working in a target-driven environment, sound knowledge of health and safety regulations and ACOPS relevant to the post, in line with HASAWA 1974.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a commercial and domestic property maintenance environment.
  • Experience delivering services within the social housing sector.
  • Experience using PDA technology (handheld/mobile working technology).

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum of Level 2 NVQ or equivalent qualification in bricklaying / roofing and/or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Appropriate CSCS card.

Desirable

  • Health & safety qualifications related to the sector/construction industry.
  • Asbestos awareness training.
  • Relevant power tool training.
  • Manual handling training.
  • Appropriate and current training in COSHH & PPE.
  • Access equipment and working at height training e.g. mobile work platforms.
