About the Role
We are looking for a General Building Labourer to join our Onward Repairs team on a permanent basis. The role is to deliver property maintenance services by assisting the Building Technician, carrying out repairs in line with group standards and key performance indicators, and ensuring high standards while observing all legal, statutory and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, coordinate and undertake the most cost‑effective repair solutions in line with the Repairs specification or approved best practice.
- Organise materials and maintain adequate stock, including van‑based inventory, and proactively manage workload for efficient service delivery.
- Provide excellent customer service and ensure prompt work to the required standard.
- Liaise with clients, customers and colleagues regarding access, safe working practices and repair progress.
- Assist the Building Technician to ensure all work is delivered to a high standard.
- Complete job records on PDA and maintain other required documentation (access details, materials used, job progression, follow‑up information).
- Operate light machinery, plant and powered hand tools safely, and maintain allocated company vehicles.
- Undertake work activities in line with health and safety requirements and promote health & safety.
Essential: Skills / Experience
- Knowledge of building construction, components, building trades and applicable building regulations.
- Experience working in a customer‑focussed service.
- Proven ability to deliver quality, customer‑centred repairs.
- Experience working or assisting in a target‑driven environment.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations (HASAWA 1974, ACOPS, etc.) relevant to the role.
Desirable
- Experience in commercial and domestic property maintenance.
- Experience delivering services in the social housing sector.
- Experience using PDA technology (handheld/mobile working technology).
Qualifications – Essential
- Studying towards an L2 NVQ or equivalent qualification in bricklaying / roofing with relevant experience.
- Appropriate CSCS card.
Qualifications – Desirable
- Relevant health & safety qualifications related to the sector/construction industry.
- Asbestos awareness training.
- Relevant power tool training.
- Manual handling training.
- Current training in COSHH & PPE.
- Training in access equipment and working at height (e.g., mobile work platforms).
