Ontic, a leading licensor and manufacturer of complex engineering parts for the global aerospace and defence industries, is now recruiting for a Lead Electronics Engineer to join our growing Engineering team based at our Bishops Cleeve site. The Role
As Lead Electronics Engineer, you will be responsible for the sustainment of a diverse portfolio of complex aerospace electronic products across their full lifecycle — from NPI through to retirement. Acting as a subject matter expert, you will provide technical leadership, support cross-functional teams, and ensure products continue to meet stringent reliability, safety and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide electronic engineering expertise to internal and external stakeholders across the product lifecycle
- Ensure continued product conformance to design through review and adherence to technical documentation
- Assess and approve alternative components in response to obsolescence and supply chain challenges
- Lead and approve engineering changes through formal ECN processes
- Play a key role in redesign and product improvement projects, balancing technical, quality, cost and schedule requirements
- Lead root cause investigations and implement effective corrective actions
- Produce high-quality technical documentation and engineering reports
- Support obsolescence and counterfeit mitigation strategies alongside Component Engineering
- Mentor and coach graduates and junior engineers, fostering capability development within the team
About You:
You’ll be an experienced Electronics Engineer with a background in digital and/or analogue design or evaluation within a reliability-critical environment. You will also bring:
- A degree (or equivalent experience) in Electronics Engineering
- Demonstrable experience in a Lead or senior technical role within design or manufacturing
- Strong understanding of design verification and validation principles
- Experience approving design changes and participating in critical design reviews
- Root Cause Analysis and corrective action expertise
- CAD literacy (Altium & Windchill preferred)
- Knowledge of applicable aerospace or regulated industry standards
- Experience within aerospace or another highly regulated sector is strongly preferred. Exposure to RF design or evaluation would be advantageous, but not essential.
