As a Chargehand, Lining Operative, you will play a key supporting role in the delivery of UV lining projects by assisting the Foreman in coordinating daily site activities and ensuring the crew works safely and efficiently. They help manage the setup, installation, and curing processes, operate key equipment, and carry out essential checks and documentation. Acting as the Foreman’s right hand, the Chargehand communicates progress and issues, guides less experienced operatives, and helps maintain high standards of workmanship and safety on site. This role is vital in keeping operations organised, productive, and running smoothly.
The Role:
- Support the Foreman in leading and coordinating the UV lining crew to ensure safe and efficient site operations.
- Assist with the setup, installation, and curing processes for UV CIPP lining projects.
- Carry out pre-site checks, confirm material quantities, and prepare equipment for daily tasks.
- Operate and monitor UV curing systems, winches, cameras, and associated lining equipment as directed, including having the ability experience and knowledge to fit and install end cans/pots.
- Ensure team members follow safety procedures and support the Foreman during toolbox talks and site briefings.
- Communicate site progress, issues, and material needs to the Foreman to maintain smooth workflow.
- Complete basic site paperwork, measurements, and installation logs when required.
- Provide hands-on guidance to crew members, helping to train new operatives and maintain work quality.
- Assist in resolving technical or on-site challenges to keep work running to schedule.
- Carry out daily equipment checks, basic maintenance, and safe handling of tools and machinery.
What you’ll need:
- Good understanding of UV CIPP lining processes, equipment, and on-site installation procedures.
- Previous experience working in pipe rehabilitation, civil engineering, or a similar site-based environment.
- Ability to read and follow site instructions, job specifications, and basic technical drawings.
- Strong communication skills to support the Foreman and relay information clearly to the crew.
- A solid grasp of health and safety practices, including PPE requirements and safe working procedures.
- Physical fitness and willingness to work in confined spaces, outdoors, and in challenging site conditions.
- Problem-solving ability and confidence to support decision-making when issues arise on site.
- Basic competence in completing site paperwork, measurements, and equipment logs.
- A reliable and proactive attitude, with the ability to guide less experienced operatives.
- Valid driving licence (with HGV licence, preferred but not necessary) and additional site tickets such as CSCS, confined-space training.
- Willingness to travel and work away when necessary.
