Introduction

Onsite Commercial Services are looking for a new Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician Apprentice. You will be studying toward your Motor Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician (Heavy) apprenticeship Level 3.

From our two commercial workshop facilities in Southampton we maintain, service and MOT test any vehicle from a light van up to a maximum weight articulated truck, to the Ministry of Transport standards. Whether you’re an owner-driver or operator of a large fleet, our friendly team are available to discuss your ongoing vehicle maintenance needs. Wherever you need our assistance we pride ourselves on being available and able to travel to your location with one of our fully equipped service vehicles. We try to repair any breakdown at the roadside and repair any accident damage no matter how severe as quickly as possible. Our fleet of mobile service vehicles operate throughout the south providing our customers with fleet maintenance solutions to keep vehicles on the road when they need to be.

What You\'ll Do

As an HGV Technician Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced HGV technicians in a busy workshop, learning how to inspect, service, maintain and repair a wide range of commercial vehicles. You will gain hands-on experience working on rigid trucks, trailers, vans and other heavy goods vehicles while developing the knowledge and practical skills needed to complete your apprenticeship. Throughout your training, you will learn how to follow manufacturer guidelines, use specialist tools and diagnostic equipment, carry out routine maintenance and support the team in delivering high standards of vehicle safety and reliability.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Assist qualified HGV technicians with the servicing, maintenance and repair of commercial vehicles
  • Carry out routine vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance under supervision
  • Support with MOT preparation and repair work to ensure vehicles meet legal standards
  • Assist with roller brake testing and other vehicle safety checks
  • Complete fleet vehicle inspections and report any faults or defects
  • Learn to use specialist workshop tools, equipment and vehicle diagnostic systems safely
  • Follow manufacturer procedures and workshop health and safety requirements at all times
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment
  • Accurately complete job records and maintenance documentation as required
  • Work as part of the workshop team to develop your technical skills and provide a high standard of customer service

Training Outcome

There is a possibility of being offered a full-time role after successful completion of the apprenticeship.
