As a Permanent Employed Driver for OnRoute Transport Group, you will be responsible for the safe, punctual, and professional transport of passengers — including children travelling to and from school and adults who require community transport support. You will represent OnRoute on the road every day and will be central to the quality of service we deliver to our local authority partners and their service users.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and drop off passengers safely and on time across assigned routes in Essex and Thurrock.
- Build positive, professional, and reassuring relationships with passengers, parents, carers, and school staff.
- Complete pre-journey vehicle walkaround checks at the start of each shift and report any vehicle defects promptly to the Operations Manager.
- Follow all company Standard Operating Procedures, safeguarding policies, and licensing conditions at all times.
- Maintain accurate journey records and booking logs in line with company and regulatory requirements.
- Report any incidents, accidents, or concerns within the required internal timeframe.
- Attend mandatory training sessions and refresher programmes as directed by management.
- Ensure the vehicle is kept clean, presentable, and fit for purpose on a daily basis.
- Be available for scheduled morning and afternoon shifts on school days, and additional routes as required.
- Cooperate with and support the onboarding of new drivers where instructed.
What You Need
- A valid full UK driving licence held for a minimum of one year.
- A clean or near-clean driving record.
- The right to work in the United Kingdom.
- Ability to pass an Enhanced DBS Check with barred list checks (we assist with this process).
- Ability to meet the council's PHV licensing medical and knowledge requirements (we put you through this fully).
- Good communication skills and a patient, professional, and courteous attitude.
- Reliability and punctuality — our passengers and local authority partners depend on us.
- Flexibility to work assigned shifts and routes as directed by the Operations Manager.
