Onnec is seeking a Head of Tax and Financial Compliance to help shape the Group’s agenda for establishing a business presence in overseas territories from a tax and company law perspective. In this role, you will act as a trusted advisor to key stakeholders, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance across markets in partnership with external advisors. This includes determining the tax, legal, and regulatory requirements for operating in different countries. While H&S and HR compliance sit outside this role, you will provide guidance to ensure risks are appropriately managed.

This is a fast‑paced position where you will play a key role in establishing the Group’s international compliance framework and defining market entry strategies. You will advise on the need for an in‑country presence, the appropriate structure, and associated processes. You will also ensure financial compliance requirements are met, including advising Sales on country‑specific tax implications for bid pricing. You will own the Group’s financial compliance processes, working with external advisors and regional Finance teams to ensure timely and accurate filings. Acting as the global head of tax, you will oversee compliance across all jurisdictions where the Group has a taxable presence, including maintaining the annual compliance calendar, monitoring overseas activities, reviewing tax reporting, and advising on project work such as group structure and tax elections. The overall objective of the role is to assess and minimise financial, legal, and regulatory risk across the Group’s global operations.

What you’ll be doing as our Head of Tax and Financial Compliance:

  • Work with external advisors and complete detailed independent research to understand challenges, obligations, and practices of working in new territories (taxation, global mobility, company law, trade permits, etc.).
  • Collaborate with senior internal stakeholders to agree on the entry strategy for new international markets.
  • Line management of the Group Tax Manager.
  • Implement agreed strategies to ensure smooth entry into new countries (completing documentation, coordinating advisors, managing timelines, etc.), and keep the business up to date with progress.
  • Provide advice to the HR team on global mobility and/or posting of workers overseas/hiring internationally.
  • Act as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders on all international compliance matters, including completing annual compliance and reporting documentation.
  • Provide guidance to the regional Finance team on tax and financial compliance, supporting the business-as-usual financial reporting and invoicing processes.
  • Project management of external tax and reporting deadlines globally, overseeing teams across the Group’s various international offices.
  • Conduct reviews of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns and reporting for any countries where the Group has such obligations (corporation tax, sales tax, employment tax, withholding tax, etc.).
  • Conduct monthly reviews of P&L tax accrued in management accounts and quarterly reviews of Balance Sheet reconciliations prepared by the regional Finance teams.
  • Monitor changing rules in any countries where the Group has a business presence to ensure we remain compliant.
  • Detect and challenge inadequate or ineffective controls to mitigate risks.
  • Own and support internal teams with changing regulation requirements and adapt the business model accordingly from a financial perspective.
  • Ensure the business undertakes regular reviews of material risk and adherence to policy standards.

What we’re looking for in our Head of Tax and Financial Compliance:

  • Technically minded, subject matter expert in company secretarial requirements, international tax and global mobility.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to manage complex tasks while working to tight deadlines.
  • Communicating and collaborating with senior stakeholders, including executive‑level officers.
  • Working with external advisors (tax, finance, and regulatory) and scrutinising advice received.
  • Completing independent research for new territories.
  • Experience with Bloomberg’s International Tax platform beneficial, but not essential.
  • Willing to work independently to identify opportunities for improvement in business practices and structure.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong organisational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of the IT infrastructure, networks, and connectivity industry is preferred but not essential.
  • Previous experience in a relevant role/roles.
  • Mandatory strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
