We're looking for a talented and driven Design & Estimation Consultant to join our growing team at ONNEC.
In this role, you'll play a key part in delivering innovative design solutions and accurate project cost estimates for structured cabling and connectivity infrastructure within some of the world's most complex data centre and critical infrastructure environments.
Working closely with our Sales, Commercial, and Operational teams, you'll support projects throughout their lifecycle, from initial client engagement and solution development through to project delivery.
You'll be responsible for producing high-quality technical designs, detailed cost models, and supporting documentation that help drive successful project outcomes and support business growth.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong technical understanding of connectivity systems who is looking to further develop their expertise and progress towards becoming a recognised Senior Design & Estimation Specialist within a fast-paced, global technology organisation.
What you’ll be doing as our Design & Estimation Consultant
- Prepare client quotations through a process of surveying, design interpretation and estimation.
- Consult with sales, operations and commercial to ensure all elements of client requirements are captured within the costs
- Ensure that requests for quotations are returned within the required timescales.
- Ensure all quotations are produced in accordance with departmental policy and procedures.
- Produce accurate information that can be conveyed to the operations team in the form of Pre Contract Reviews in accordance with company procedures.
- Adopt a proactive approach with line management and sales to continually look to provide support and technical guidance on opportunities.
- Support sales teams in engagement with clients, main contractors, consultants and internal teams.
This includes but not limited to development of presentations and technical details.
- Producing detailed general arrangement plans, detailed cabinet/frame layouts, cable density drawings and schematic diagrams to enable implementation of cabling projects
- Co-ordination of project drawings from information stage through to construction stage, working closely with other trades in a site environment
- Providing costs for additional works and maximising attainable profit on all opportunities
What we’re looking for in our Design & Estimation Consultant
- Proven experience in the design and estimation of structured cabling, telecommunications infrastructure, and ICT solutions within complex environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of data centre and critical infrastructure projects, including industry standards, design principles, and construction methodologies.
- Ability to produce accurate cost estimates, tender submissions, and budget forecasts that align with commercial and project objectives.
- Experience supporting projects throughout the full lifecycle, from pre-sales solution development through to project delivery and handover.
- Commercially aware, with an understanding of contractual frameworks, risk management, variation control, and project profitability.
- Skilled in building strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders, with the ability to understand requirements and develop effective solutions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to create clear, accurate technical documentation and client-facing materials.
- A proactive, adaptable, and solution-focused approach, with the ability to perform under pressure and successfully manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- A collaborative team player with strong emotional intelligence, committed to continuous improvement, quality, and professional development.
- Relevant industry experience and qualifications such as RCDD, CNIDP, CDCP, or manufacturer-accredited training would be advantageous, but are not essential.
