Campus South Downs Salary Grade 5 Spine Point 19 £32,510.78 - Grade 5 Spine Point 26 £42,483.46 (dependent on experience) FTE. This is a temporary, part time vacancy that will close in 6 days at 23:59 BST. The vacancy will last 0.08 FTE Thursday 17:30 - 21:30.

About the role

HSDC is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspiring Lecturer to deliver Education and Psychology units on our evening Access to Higher Education Diploma in Humanities and Social Science and Teaching. This role is focused on supporting adult learners to achieve outstanding outcomes and progress to Higher Education. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and high-quality teaching, assessment, and academic support, fostering a culture of high expectations and student success. You will work collaboratively within a committed teaching team, contributing to curriculum development, quality improvement, and the ongoing success of the Access to HE programme.

The successful candidate will ideally hold a relevant degree or equivalent qualification, alongside a recognised teaching qualification such as a PGCE or Cert Ed. Qualifications in Assessing and Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) are also desirable. However, all staff at HSDC can enrol on our Level 3 Education and Training Award to become competent in classroom, if they have enough relevant industry experience. We are also able to support staff through the Level 3 Assessors Award and Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance Award.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment to ensure excellent student outcomes, retention and progression.
  • Delivering scheduled teaching, tutorials, and assessment for Biology and Independent Project units.
  • Monitoring and tracking student progress using College systems.
  • Preparing schemes of work, lesson plans, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Setting, marking and moderating coursework and internal assessments.
  • Providing effective academic and pastoral support to students.
  • Participating in student reviews, interviews, and reference writing.
  • Contributing to quality improvement, course evaluation, and assessment review processes.
  • Attending team meetings and sharing best practice with colleagues.

Requirements

Essential

  • Degree in Education or Psychology or a closely related subject.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Education, Psychology.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality teaching leading to strong student outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to provide effective academic and pastoral support to adult learners.
  • Confident use of IT to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality and diversity.

Desirable

  • Teaching qualification (PGCE/Cert Ed or equivalent).
  • Experience teaching Access to HE or Level 3 learners.
  • Experience delivering independent/research project units.
  • Ability to teach A Level Psychology or similar Level 3 courses.
