Who We Are

Telford College is an award-winning further education college serving more than 7,000 learners at the heart of Telford & Wrekin. We hold an Ofsted ‘Good’ rating following our December 2024 inspection and we are recognised for our outstanding financial health. Driven by our values of ambition, respect and connection, our vision is to be a world-class college, inspiring students to achieve their potential. We are also driving impactful partnerships with businesses in our communities, aiming to deliver excellent outcomes for our students so they can develop rewarding careers.

The opportunity

Our new £9 million Telford 6th is a genuinely exceptional facility – superbly equipped and located right at the heart of Telford new town. More than £1 million alone has been invested in its fit-out, including state-of-the-art science labs, a drama studio, an arts studio and a bespoke library designed around how students learn. Demand is strong for our 2026/2027 intake with a significant level of applications already received for our A Level provision at the new campus. We are seeking a Vice Principal to join our executive leadership team – a visible, values-led leader who will take strategic and operational responsibility for Telford 6th as it opens in September 2026. This is an opportunity to shape the educational experience of more than 500 A Level students annually and build a culture of ambition, belonging and continuous improvement.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experienced and inspirational post-16 education leader with a strong track record in delivering sustained high-quality post-16 provision including A Levels.
  • Rigorous quality assurance experience, the ability to analyse data and drive evidence-based improvement, and confidence to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, from students and parents to school leaders and sector forums.
  • Strong sector and delivery experience, excellent interpersonal skills and an in-depth knowledge of safeguarding.
  • Ambition about what education can achieve and about the role a college can play in shaping the future of the communities we serve.

A message from our Principal and Chief Executive Officer

Telford College is about to do something which has not been done in our borough before – open a brand-new sixth form centre in the heart of the town centre. This is a multi-million-pound investment in young people and in this community and one of the most exciting opportunities in further education in the West Midlands region. The Vice Principal we appoint will be central to making it a success. I am looking for a leader who will shape what Telford 6th becomes: for students, for staff and for the borough. I am looking for someone who can shape the student experience, the curriculum, the culture and the outcomes that will define what Telford 6th stands for. We have strong backing from our partners, a highly committed leadership team and a college that is genuinely on the move. I am ambitious for this college and for this town. I want to work alongside someone who shares that ambition and has the experience and drive to deliver it. If you have the track record and the belief that every young person deserves the very best, I would love to hear from you.

Why join us?

We invest in our people as much as our buildings. Benefits include 37 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, excellent pension schemes, flexible working arrangements, health and well-being support and access to our on-site salon, restaurant and gym at our Wellington campus. We have also introduced a relocation package of up to £8,000, covering eligible relocation expenses in line with HMRC guidelines. This support is available to successful candidates required to relocate for the role and is subject to approval and qualifying criteria.

The Role

The role comes with a broad range of key responsibilities:

  • Oversee the quality assurance processes relating to our A Level provision, including lesson observations, performance reviews, self-assessment and curriculum reviews.
  • Lead the team, fostering high expectations whilst focusing on their well-being and belonging, in keeping with the positive, inclusive culture that we pride ourselves on across the college.
  • Be a visible presence across the campus, building relationships, understanding day-to-day realities and modelling the professionalism and ambition expected of staff and students.
  • Responsible for resource allocation, including curriculum planning, timetabling and efficient use of physical, financial and technological resources to maximise student success and operational efficiency.
  • Shape the educational experience of more than 500 A Level students annually, influence staff culture and set high expectations for the new campus.

Skills & Expertise

  • Significant senior leadership experience within post-16 education.
