The predicted salary is between 30000 - 40000 £ per year.

The progression, transitions and achievement coach will be primarily responsible for managing the gathering of appropriate transition information, transition of new students into college who have been identified and to work with them to ensure that they are on the right course, stay in learning, achieve and progress to further study and/or employment. The focus of all this support will be to enable the student to overcome the barriers that may prevent them achieving success whilst at college. This role follows the principles of youth work to enable them to deliver an assertiveness mentoring model to ensure that learners successfully transition into the college, achieve and progress to further study or employment.

It is essential for this role to have excellent motivational, assertiveness skills and communication skills at all levels to ensure that supported students make positive progress in a timely fashion. It is also essential you have sound administrative, organisational skills and a flexible, adaptable and positive attitude; with a good general education, experience of using databases, processing information and creating regular reports. An IT qualification is also preferable. Experience of working with young people/adults in a support situation is essential. Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • To work with heads of department, teachers, the inclusion, welfare and safeguarding teams to successfully transition learners into college, ensure that they are on the right course, stay in learning, achieve and progress to further study and/or employment.
  • Be the college’s primary liaison responsible for gathering transition information for all students who identify in the key groups prior to handing over to internal support services.
  • This includes:
    • Applying for Entry Level and Level 1 provision
    • Having barriers to learning
  • Initiate the start of a comprehensive Intervention Support Plans which have measurable impact as part of the assessment for new students and work with heads of department, teachers and the inclusion, welfare and safeguarding teams to provide high quality support to ensure that learners are on the right course, stay in learning, achieve and progress to further study and/or employment.
  • Develop positive and productive relationships with parents or carers to reduce barriers and help learners to achieve their goals.
  • Have a clear understanding and ability to best support all key vulnerable groups such as LAC, care leavers, young parents, young carers, students who have been involved in criminal activities, students who live away from their parents, students with mental ill health / wellbeing needs and students currently with alternative providers.
  • Develop productive and professional relationships between learners, teachers and learner support services, encouraging dialogue and feedback to ensure appropriate support mechanisms are in place.
  • Have a clear understanding of financial support and progression routes for students, in order to support students with bursary applications and to aid progression.
  • Build positive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance the support and services offered to students, including:
    • WNC careers team
    • WNC inclusion team
    • WNC transition team
    • WNC safeguarding team
    • WNC heads of departments/assistant principals
    • Schools/colleges head of years, designated teachers, SEND officers
    • Social services
    • Alternative education providers
  • Conduct initial assessments and organise tours, taster sessions and summer getting‑to‑know‑college activities for transition students.
  • Provide written reports about the progress of students to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and discretion at all times.
  • Ensure the recording of meetings and interventions taken by themselves and other staff they are responsible for is input onto the college system in a timely manner.
  • Work to performance targets with a caseload.
  • Support college enrolment, induction and other events when required.
  • Obtain regular feedback from service users in order to continually improve the service offer.
  • Organise and facilitate presentations to external services in conjunction with other staff across the college.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams in college, particularly the safeguarding team. This may involve supporting them with cases, assisting in welfare checks or sitting in on meetings with supported students, or handling follow up referrals from the safeguarding team for specialist support such as counselling.
  • Work with heads of department and teachers to plan for appropriate timely careers advice and guidance which supports learners to progress to positive destinations.

Qualifications

  • Good general education
  • Experience of using databases, processing information and creating regular reports
  • IT qualification preferable
  • Experience of working with young people/adults in a support situation essential
