Here at Bournemouth & Poole College, we have a position available for a General Assistant on a part time (term time only), permanent contract. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £24,263 per annum, pro rata (£14,876.55 per annum, including holiday uplift).

The General Assistant Role
As our General Assistant, you will provide Catering Support in the Cafeteria including preparation, cooking and serving of food and beverages, plus related catering duties.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the dining and service area ready for service.
- Assist in the preparation, cooking, serving of food and beverages as instructed.
- Receiving, checking and storage of stock deliveries.
- Taking inventory of ingredients and catering supplies and informing supervisor of ordering new stock as required, stocking of all displays including stock rotation and monitoring.
- Preparation, cooking and transportation of hospitality as required.
- Record and monitor fridge / freezer temperatures including hot food temperatures on the counter.
- Clean catering areas to regulated standards as directed.
- Cleanliness and replenishing of vending machines.
- Maintaining levels of customer service, processing sales accurately and efficiently.
- Undertake Mandatory and on and off the job training as required.
- Inform the Unit Supervisor of any defects in equipment or premises.
- There may be a requirement to cover another catering area within a reasonable geographical distance i.e. Lansdowne, Bournemouth and the Fulcrum, Tower Park.
As Our General Assistant, You’ll Ideally Have
- Level 2 (GCSE or equivalent) in English and Math (A-C or 9-4).
- Food hygiene certificate or NVQ L2 Food preparation and cooking qualification, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to lone work and as part of a team.
- Food preparation & cooking (domestic or commercial).
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Good customer care skills.
- Food Safety – (domestic or commercial), and including allergens/food intolerance issues.
- Able to communicate effectively.
- A team player.
- Responds positively to change.
- Affinity to working with young adults.
