The Role
We are seeking a dedicated, versatile, and engaging Accounting Lecturer/Tutor to deliver high-quality education across Levels 2, 3 and 4. This role is unique in its demographic reach, requiring the ability to seamlessly adapt teaching styles for both 16–18 school leavers and mature adult students upskilling or changing careers. The ideal candidate will possess strong vocational knowledge and a passion for making financial concepts, standard practices, and regulatory frameworks accessible and engaging. You will guide students from introductory bookkeeping up to advanced financial accounting and management techniques, ensuring high retention, achievement, and progression rates.
What Will You Bring To The Role
- Cognitive Agility - An accounting teacher doesn’t just teach one type of student or one level of complexity. On any given day, your focus, tone, and cognitive approach must reset depending on the timetable.
- Emotional Perception - Accounting has a reputation for inducing high levels of 'math anxiety.' 16–18 year olds and mature adults have different emotional baggage regarding education.
- Quantitative Reasoning - The ability to reason about numerical relations, interpret quantitative data, and solve problems using mathematical concepts.
- Persistent Effort - Remaining composed in the face of setbacks, embracing challenges, and trying alternative approaches to deliver success.
Benefits
- Holiday: 50 days inclusive of bank holidays and College Closure over Christmas.
- Career development opportunities.
- Generous contributions towards your pension.
- Free tea, coffee and lunch in our dedicated staff lounge.
How We Recruit
We aim to recruit based on potential, not experience. We are interested in seeing your behaviours in action and how they will help you become successful at City College Plymouth, giving everyone the opportunity to show their potential, regardless of background or experience. After completing our online application form, you will be asked to complete an online assessment within a few days of this vacancy closing. This assessment asks you no questions at all. Instead, it observes your behaviour and natural strengths in action, with a series of engaging, intuitive tasks. You will receive a report outlining your behaviours once you have completed the assessment, regardless of whether you progress to the next stage or not, providing you with some feedback.
The College welcomes applications from service leavers and the Armed Forces community, and supports those service leavers who are Reservists in any of the Armed Forces. The College reserves the right to close this advertisement early if sufficient applications have been received.
