Plumpton College is seeking an Assistant Curriculum Manager in Maths. This unique and interesting role reports directly to the Head of English and Maths, holding line‑management responsibilities for the College’s team of Maths lecturers and works closely with a matching role in the English team. We are looking for someone who is ambitious, professional, and passionate about education. This role would suit an experienced Maths teacher from either a Further Education or Secondary background, ideally with some experience in a leadership capacity as a Head of Maths or Deputy Head of Maths.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership: The Assistant Curriculum Manager in Maths line‑manages and mentors the Maths team, ensuring consistent unmissable learning experiences and overseeing student progress within the GCSE and Functional Skills courses. The postholder demonstrates effective classroom practice and sets a positive example to the wider team, leading through collaboration and open communication.
- Programme Management: This role is instrumental in ongoing developments and enhancements to our GCSE and Functional Skills programmes, ensuring they meet awarding body standards. The postholder is confident tackling queries around curriculum development, schemes of work and the assessment points that occur throughout the academic year.
- Quality Improvement: The Assistant Curriculum Manager in Maths monitors and evaluates teaching practices, shares good practice across the department and checks in effectively on student progress, facilitating intervention where necessary.
- Teaching & Assessment: For the teaching aspect of this role, the postholder confidently delivers engaging lessons, engages with developments in learning technology and different strategies for assessment for learning, and provides effective feedback to support student progression.
Qualifications
A degree or professional qualification is essential, alongside a relevant teaching qualification such as a PGCE.
Experience
Proven excellence in teaching, learning and assessment, with a desire to lead and develop a high‑performing team.
Skills
Excellent communication and IT skills, with a strong understanding of student needs and safeguarding practices.
