About The Role
We are seeking an ambitious, experienced and forward‑thinking Head of School – Construction, Building Services and Engineering to lead and grow a high‑profile curriculum area delivering 16–18 Study Programs, Higher Education, and Apprenticeships.
Role
This is a pivotal leadership role at an exciting time for the department. We have recently invested significantly in a brand‑new Clean Energy Centre, equipped with state‑of‑the‑art green technologies, including:
- Solar PV systems
- Infrared heating
- Ground source heat pumps
- Dedicated retrofit training bays
Located close to the Lower Thames Crossing development, the School is ideally positioned to respond to major regional infrastructure projects, skills shortages, and employer demand across construction, engineering, and the green economy.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for Construction, Building Services and Engineering
- Drive high‑quality teaching, learning and assessment across all provision (16–18, HE and Apprenticeships)
- Lead curriculum development with a strong focus on modern methods of construction (MMC) and sustainability
- Build and sustain strong employer partnerships, ensuring industry‑relevant delivery, work placements and apprenticeships
- Maximise learner recruitment, retention, achievement and progression
- Manage and develop commercial courses in the clean energy center
- Manage budgets, staffing, performance and quality improvement within the School
- Actively contribute to college‑wide strategic priorities and growth plans
About You
We are looking for a candidate who:
- Has proven experience of leading and managing a curriculum area or department
- Brings strong sector knowledge within construction, building services and/or engineering
- Has a clear passion for modern methods of construction, green skills and emerging technologies
- Demonstrates a strong track record of employer engagement and partnership working
- Is confident operating across multiple delivery models, including FE, HE and Apprenticeships
- Is ambitious, collaborative and committed to continuous improvement
