Are you passionate about empowering young people with special educational needs and disabilities to achieve independence, develop employability skills, and prepare for adulthood? South Essex College is seeking a motivated and dedicated Lecturer to join our Foundation and Supported Learning team. This is an exciting opportunity to support students with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities to build confidence, life skills, digital skills, and workplace readiness within a supportive and evolving learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching and learning to students studying Entry Level to Level 1 programmes within Foundation and Supported Learning.
  • Support students to develop employability skills, independence, communication, social interaction, and preparation for adulthood.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that incorporate functional skills, digital literacy, and vocational learning opportunities.
  • Develop and implement inclusive teaching strategies and differentiated learning materials tailored to meet a range of individual learning needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour, wellbeing, confidence, and personal development, enabling students to progress into further education, supported internships, employment, or independent living pathways.
  • Foster an inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement, achievement, and independence.
  • Work collaboratively with parents/carers, support staff, external agencies, and employers to ensure students receive effective support and meaningful progression opportunities.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience working with individuals with SEND, including students with learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions, social, emotional and mental health needs, and communication difficulties.
  • A strong understanding of preparation for adulthood, employability pathways, and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Good IT and digital skills, with the ability to use educational technology and digital platforms to support teaching and learning.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive and professional relationships with students and colleagues.
  • A patient, adaptable, and proactive approach to supporting learners with diverse needs and abilities.
  • A teaching qualification is desirable but not essential. Candidates without a teaching qualification will be expected to work towards achieving one during employment.
