We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Lecturer in Foundation Learning (SEND, High Needs & SEMH) to join our team, supporting learners with diverse needs to achieve their full potential. In this rewarding role, you will deliver engaging, creative and personalised learning experiences that build confidence, independence and employability skills, both in the classroom and within the local community. Working with students who have EHCPs and a range of additional needs, you will play a vital role in nurturing positive behaviours and empowering learners to progress towards meaningful adulthood outcomes. This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • To design and deliver a wide range of effective and inclusive teaching and learning activities for students with High Needs, SEND & SEMH.
  • To assess the work and progress of all students and provide them with constructive and timely feedback.
  • To seek ways of improving student performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery and obtaining and analysing feedback.
  • To develop and apply innovative approaches to improving the learning environment, teaching and/or assessment and feedback methods.
  • Engage in professional development relating to teaching, learning and assessment, including the use of an evidence-informed approach, which utilises the outcomes of scholarship to enhance teaching practice.
  • Contribute to course development and the development of new programmes of study demonstrating an inclusive and collaborative approach to delivery.
  • Contribute to outreach and/or widening participation activity within the Department/School.
  • Produce Plans of learning, lesson plans, assessment plans, varied learning materials and any other related activities that positively impact the effectiveness of learning.
  • Maintain records of formative and summative assessments of students’ learning carried out.
  • Plan, deliver and assess high-quality teaching and associated activities on courses and programmes as specified by the Head of School/Department.
  • Participate pro-actively in the design, development and delivery of enrichment and enhancement activity.
  • To undertake research and/or scholarly activity that feeds directly into teaching and learning and as agreed by the Head of School/Department.
  • To attend EHCP reviews and support students working towards their Preparing for Adulthood outcomes.

As part of the government-targeted retention payment scheme, you may be eligible for a payment of up to £6000, dependent on the subject/courses you teach.

Education & Training

  • Level 5 Qualification or subject specialism in SEND.
  • A relevant teaching qualification or willingness to work towards this qualification.
  • GCSE 4 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths, or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale.
  • GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English, or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale.

Experience

  • Experience of successful teaching/training and the evidence of performance/data to support it (e.g. lesson observations, retention and achievement data).
  • Experience in high-quality teaching within an FE, special school or secondary school environment.
  • A comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of a relevant subject area.
  • Experience in improving the learning environment, teaching and/or assessment and feedback methods.
  • Experience teaching and giving pastoral support to students with SEMH; including de-escalation techniques and behaviour management.
