We’re looking for a Key Stage 4 GCSE Science Teacher (0.6 FTE). Maternity Cover (FTC up to 12 months): 14–16 Learning Academy, NWSLC with potential to increase up to full time and become permanent.

The NWSLC 14–16 Learning Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and committed GCSE Science Teacher (0.6FTE with potential to increase) to join our specialist provision supporting Key Stage 4 learners (Years 10–11). This is a rewarding opportunity to work with young people who are home‑educated and may have gaps in prior learning, students who choose to study with us and deeply value the supportive environment we provide. About The Role
You will plan, deliver and reflect on engaging Science lessons for KS4 students—many of whom may have experienced disrupted education. Working as part of a dedicated 14–16 team, you will help learners build confidence, overcome barriers, and progress towards their essential qualifications for the next step in their education.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality teaching, learning and assessment in Science
- Contribute to curriculum planning and sequencing
- Inspire a love of learning and subject curiosity
- Assess progress in line with NWSLC policies, including mocks and in‑class assessments
- Support trips and visits as required
- Deliver sessions from the 14–16 Personal Development Programme when necessary
- Embed careers education, personal development, and British values into lessons
- Carry out organisational and administrative duties linked to your classes
Location: Nuneaton and Wigston
Who We’re Looking For
- A teaching qualification (PGCE/QTS or equivalent) or willingness to gain one within 2 years
- A relevant degree or specialist qualification
- Experience teaching Key Stage 4 (any setting: mainstream, alternative, or specialist)
- A passion for working with young people and enabling access to new opportunities
- Experience supporting students with gaps in learning or additional needs (SEND/behaviour)
- Ability to tailor learning to diverse and complex individual needs
