Locum Social Worker Family Support & Protection Team

We are currently recruiting on behalf of Essex County Council for an experienced Locum Social Worker to join their Family Support & Protection Team based in Chelmsford. This is a community-based role with a strong emphasis on relationship-based practice, safeguarding, and early intervention to deliver long-term positive outcomes for children and families.

This is an initial 3-month contract with the possibility of extension, ideal for social workers with strong assessment, planning, and direct work skills who thrive in a collaborative environment.

Social Worker Key Details:

• Location: Chelmsford

• Rate: £35 per hour

• Contract: 3 months (likely to extend)

• Working style: Community-based with flexibility

Your Social Worker Role:

As a Social Worker in the Family Support and Protection Team, you will:

• Conduct complex assessments and formulate effective support plans

• Carry out interventions to safeguard children and improve long-term outcomes

• Collaborate with partner agencies and local services to build resilience in families

• Work to statutory standards while promoting a child-centred and strengths-based approach

• Participate in case discussions, reviews, and court proceedings where necessary

• Deliver services within Essex\’s values of integrity, compassion, and collaboration

Social Worker Requirements:

• Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration

• Minimum of 3 years frontline experience

• Proven experience in family support, child protection, or safeguarding teams

• A full driving licence and access to a vehicle

• Strong report writing and communication skills

• A commitment to keeping children safe and supporting families effectively
