Apprenticeship Skills Tutor – Joinery

Hours: 22.5 hours per week, all year round

Duration: Permanent

Salary: £20,363.72 (unqualified teacher/assessor) to £23,404.26 (qualified teacher/assessor) pro-rata, per annum with benefits

Location: Rotherham College, Rotherham (with off-site travel within South Yorkshire and surrounding areas)

Role Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Joinery Skills Tutor to join our Work-Based Learning team. This is a chance to shape the next generation of carpenters and joiners.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver creative, engaging sessions that bridge the gap between the workshop and the site.
  • Use industry insight to develop the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSBs) that modern employers crave.
  • Conduct on-site performance reviews and assessments, ensuring apprentices meet the highest professional standards.
  • Use technology to track progress through e-portfolios, keeping everyone—from the student to the employer—on the path to success.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Solid experience in Joinery or Woodworking.
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant wood trade.
  • Level 5 Teaching Qualification (or the drive to work toward it with our support).
  • Assessment award A1/V1.
  • Strong people skills and ability to build relationships with diverse learners and partner organisations.

Reporting & Team

Reports to the Work-Based Learning Team Leader and works alongside Curriculum Managers and Lecturers.
