Role Overview

The Sous Chef / Senior Chef de Partie supports the Head Chef in delivering high‑quality, consistent food in a fast‑paced, high‑volume garden centre restaurant. This role combines hands‑on cooking, supervision of kitchen operations, and maintaining excellent standards of food safety, presentation, and organisation. It’s ideal for someone experienced, reliable, and confident leading a team during busy service periods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and present dishes to a high standard across all sections
  • Support the Head Chef with menu execution, specials, and seasonal dishes
  • Lead the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef
  • Maintain excellent food hygiene and safety standards at all times
  • Oversee stock rotation, labelling, and daily checks
  • Assist with ordering, deliveries, and stock management
  • Train, support, and guide junior kitchen staff
  • Ensure cleaning schedules are followed and kitchen areas remain organised
  • Work efficiently during busy breakfast, lunch, and afternoon service periods
  • Communicate clearly with front‑of‑house teams to ensure smooth service
  • Contribute to a positive, professional, and team‑focused working environment

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or strong Chef de Partie in a busy kitchen
  • Ability to run a section confidently and support wider kitchen operations
  • Strong understanding of food safety, allergens, and HACCP
  • Ability to work quickly, cleanly, and efficiently
  • Good communication skills and a calm, organised approach
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic

Desirable

  • Experience in daytime or high‑volume catering environments
  • Food Hygiene Level 2 or 3 certification
  • Experience with baking, prep, or batch cooking
  • Knowledge of seasonal produce
