SEO Manager

Up to £40,000 Office Based Role in Burntwood, Lichfield

We’re a comprehensive agency, managing all aspects in-house to ensure lasting growth for our business partners and clients.

Sorry, we don’t collaborate with recruitment agencies.

About OMS

OMS is an SEO-led growth agency based in Burntwood, founded in 2013. We work with businesses across the UK, from growing SMEs through to established multi-million-pound organisations, across manufacturing, automotive, construction, e-commerce, healthcare and professional services.

We operate more like consultants than a traditional agency. Clients come to us for commercial outcomes, and we hold ourselves accountable for delivering them. We don’t stop at rankings either, and where on-page or conversion improvements would bring a client more enquiries, that’s part of the conversation too.

The role

You’ll own the SEO strategy for a portfolio of around [X] clients: understanding each business, working out what is and isn’t working, deciding what should happen next, and making sure it gets delivered.

This is not a role where someone hands you a task list each month. It’s a role where you look at rankings, traffic, leads and conversions and answer three questions: what is the data telling us, what should we do next, and is our current strategy still the right one. You then turn those answers into clear priorities for the client and for the OMS delivery team.

You’ll work alongside our technical SEO, digital PR and content, development and digital executive teams, reporting to our Head of Marketing and Operations.

What you’ll do

Strategy and performance

  • Build and maintain SEO strategies for your portfolio, grounded in each client’s business model, commercial objectives and competitive landscape.
  • Plan across a calendar rather than month to month: how long to work a theme of keywords before judging it, when to rotate onto the next set, and how to time work around a client’s seasonal peaks.
  • Monitor rankings, visibility, traffic, leads and conversions, and know how often each of those is worth looking
  • Recognise when a strategy needs to change rather than continuing with existing.
  • Decide the right mix of technical SEO, content, on-page, and digital PR.
  • Apply E-E-A-T thinking to content and site strategy, particularly for clients where trust signals carry the most weight.
  • Help clients navigate AI search: what AI Overviews and LLM assistants mean for visibility, and how to position content to be cited rather than bypassed.
  • Help shape how OMS approaches AI search and GEO.

Clients

  • Act as the strategic point of contact for your portfolio and lead regular strategy and performance meetings.
  • Explain SEO clearly and commercially, set realistic expectations, and make sure clients understand what we’re doing and why.
  • Spot risks early and raise them before they become problems.
  • Spot where a client could grow further, including where on-page or conversion improvements would bring more leads than another ranking.
  • Delivery and team
  • Brief work clearly so the team understands the outcome, not just the task.
  • Review work before it reaches the client where appropriate.
  • Help less experienced colleagues develop their SEO and commercial judgement.
  • Make sure retainers are being used effectively.

Standards and process

  • Help the wider SEO team and our Head of Marketing and Operations shape how OMS runs SEO. This is a shared playbook on: how we diagnose, respond to performance changes, and how content, digital PR, CRO and development fit around the SEO.
  • Help keep it current as Google, AI search and customer search behaviour change.
  • Help us use AI and automation to work faster without dropping quality.

What we’re looking for

Attitude, judgement and commercial thinking matter to us as much as a list of technical skills. We’re looking for someone who:

  • Knows SEO hands‑on and can see past individual tasks to the strategic picture.
  • Confident in front of business owners, marketing managers and senior decision‑makers.
  • Understands that clients care about leads, sales and revenue, not just rankings.
  • Can make a recommendation and explain the reasoning behind it.
  • Takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do next.
  • Can coordinate specialists without needing to be the expert in every discipline.
  • Will challenge a client or a colleague professionally when it’s the right thing to do.
  • Is curious about how AI is changing search.
  • Is organised enough to hold several clients and priorities at once.

Experience

  • 4+ years in SEO, ideally agency-side.
  • Ownership of SEO campaigns, and direct client contact.
  • Solid grounding in keyword research, on‑page SEO, content strategy, technical SEO fundamentals and digital PR or link building.
  • Confident in Google Search Console and GA4, and in a major SEO platform such as SEMrush or Ahrefs.
  • Comfortable running and interpreting a crawl in Screaming Frog or similar.
  • A track record of building an SEO strategy, measuring it honestly, and changing it when the results say it isn’t working.

You don’t need to be an advanced technical SEO specialist or a developer. We already have that capability in the team. We’re looking for someone who brings SEO knowledge, strategy, communication and commercial thinking together.

Your first year, and where it leads

By the end of your first year, we’d expect you to have built real relationships across your portfolio, to have documented strategies in place for every account you manage, and to know which clients are performing, which need attention and why. We’d expect you to be changing direction when performance or market conditions call for it, giving the delivery team clear priorities, and contributing to how OMS evolves its search offering.

We’re building OMS so people can progress through either leadership or specialist paths. This role can develop towards Senior SEO Manager and then Head of Search. Progression comes from demonstrated capability and impact, not time served.

What we offer

  • Up to £40,000 depending on experience.
  • 30 days paid holiday including bank holidays.
  • Christmas To New Year Office Shutdown
  • Pension scheme with employer contribution.
  • Ongoing training and professional development.
  • Direct access to specialists across SEO, PPC, development, digital PR and strategy.
  • Real influence over how OMS develops its search offering.
  • Exposure to clients across a wide range of sectors.
  • Team social events.

Closing date: 9th October 2026. We review applications as they arrive, so early applications are welcome.

OMS is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and will make reasonable adjustments to our recruitment process on request. All successful candidates are asked to provide evidence of their right to work in the UK before starting.

We process the personal data in your application to assess your suitability for this role. You can read how we handle applicant data, and how long we keep it, in our recruitment privacy notice at OMS privacy policy .
