The Role

Reporting into the Operations Supervisor, the Operations Team Leader is responsible for leading a team of warehouse operatives to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations within their designated area. The role focuses on delivering operational KPIs, maintaining high standards, supporting employee development, and acting as the first point of contact for day-to-day team management.

What you'll be doing:

  • Operational Delivery
    • Operate within agreed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure a compliant and efficient operation.
    • Lead the designated team to consistently achieve KPIs and productivity targets.
    • Ensure all operational standards are met and maintained across the shift.
    • Support overall warehouse operations by assisting where required to meet operational demands.
    • Maintain and promote a “clean as you go” culture within the team.
  • Team Leadership & People Management
    • Lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team to perform at their optimal level.
    • Act as the first point of contact for all team members on shift.
    • Manage daily team performance, ensuring hourly and shift targets are achieved.
    • Conduct performance management, including addressing underperformance and resolving conflicts.
    • Confidently hold difficult conversations when required.
    • Identify and escalate high levels of absence (for both permanent and agency staff).
    • Complete Return to Work (RTW) interviews and escalate absence triggers to management.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure all Health & Safety (H&S) regulations and site rules are followed at all times.
    • Conduct regular walkarounds to ensure safe working practices are being adhered to.
    • Monitor working areas to ensure they remain safe, clean, and fit for purpose. Log all near misses and accidents accurately on the H&S system.
    • Escalate safety concerns or risks to the management team immediately.
    • Promote a safe working environment and ensure compliance across all activities.
  • Training & Development
    • Complete onboarding and inductions for new starters.
    • Deliver ongoing training, retraining, and regular updates to ensure team capability and compliance.
    • Maintain a strong understanding of all roles within the assigned area to provide support and guidance.
  • Communication & Reporting
    • Communicate clearly and effectively with team members and supervisors.
    • Immediately report any operational failures and work to implement swift resolutions.
    • Manage and maintain daily register reports for the team.
  • Quality Control & Compliance Audits
    • Conduct routine checks to ensure staff are following instructions and SOPs.
    • Maintain high standards of operational accuracy and quality within the department.
  • Support to Supervisors
    • Provide operational support to the Operations Supervisor as required.
    • Step up to cover supervisory duties when necessary, ensuring continuity of operations.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Previous experience in a warehouse or operational team leader role.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Good understanding of warehouse operations and KPI-driven environments.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage performance and handle conflict professionally.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Exceptional time-management abilities.
  • A team player.
  • Excellent IT skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel etc.
  • Experience of Peoplevox is beneficial but not crucial.
