Our client is a leading scaffolding contractor who mainly operate in the South East. Due to expansion plans, they require a Scaffolding Yard & Transport Manager.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the Scaffolding Contracts Manager undertaking and managing two Yard Supervisors, supervising (5-yard staff) the following functions, and guiding (as necessary) new and other yard labourers who are assigned these activities:
  • Stock (Haki System & scaffolding tubes, boards, fitting rotation).
  • Cleaning and oiling fittings.
  • Cleaning and repairing boards.
  • Cleaning scaffolding stock.
  • Repairing other stock and equipment.
  • Painting and re-painting stock in company branded colour as required.
  • Loading lorries throughout the day with stock to take to client sites and ensuring they are loaded and ready to go at the end of the day.
  • Ensuring the Scaffold yard is always tidy and well organised.
  • Working with the Scaffolding Contracts Manager to ensure drivers and their lorries are loaded and are able to leave the yard each morning as required.
  • Liaising with service & maintenance providers to undertake PMIs, servicing, MOTs and repairs as needed.
  • Carry out Tachograph analysis, driver management, driver card download and analysis, Fuel card management and HSE compliance.
  • Undertaking booking repairs to the buildings and/or equipment at the yard.
  • Ensuring the Scaffold yard is unlocked in the morning and safely locked each evening.
  • Training new yard staff in basic yard management health and safety practices and providing knowledge of the scaffolding industry.
  • Where required carrying out random drugs and alcohol tests on Scaffolders.
  • Liaising with and maintaining a good working relationship with internal clients, including Site Support Managers, Scaffold Inspection Manager, Site Supervisors/Black Hats.
  • Where breaches of policy, process or health and safety occur, referring such to the HSEQ Manager to deal with, and supporting with relevant information when requested to do so.

  • FORS Practitioner (training can be provided)
  • Stock Control & Management
  • OLAT

Significant yard experience, and knowledge of how to manage a productive and cost-efficient operation of both staff vehicles and equipment. Significant experience in the construction industry working on large and complex projects and/or yard. Strong knowledge and experience in the scaffolding industry. Ability to inspire scaffolding yard team members to embrace company vision and growth plans, and modelling company values always. An advocate for excellence in all aspects of health and safety constructions practices, and 'leading from the front' with scaffolding practices, always wearing full PPE kits on sites (including helmets, Hi-Viz clothes, protective boots, gloves and glasses as required). Strong people supervision skills, ensuring yard operatives work productively on projects as directed by the Contracts Manager. Strong computer skills, including Outlook 365, Word, Excel, stock systems. Strong, transparent, and respectful written and verbal communication skills.
