We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Anaesthetic Nurse to join our dynamic team at OneWelbeck Surgical Centre. The Anaesthetic Nurse plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and comfort of patients undergoing surgery by providing expert anaesthetic care under the supervision of anaesthetists and in collaboration with the wider surgical team. You will be knowledgeable and experienced in the peri-operative environment, assisting the anaesthetist to provide the highest standard of patient care across a varied caseload. You must be organised, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be up to date with the latest policies and procedures.

OneWelbeck Surgery Centre
The OneWelbeck Surgery Centre was founded by a group of leading Consultants with a goal of developing a state-of-the-art day surgery centre in the heart of London. The purpose built 7,000 square foot Centre includes 3 laminar flow theatres and 12 ensuite patient pods. OneWelbeck offers a wide range of surgical specialties delivered by a team of expert healthcare professionals including orthopaedic, general, colorectal, breast, gynaecology, ENT, cardiac and pain management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare anaesthetic equipment and medications according to established protocols and guidelines with the ability to troubleshoot and anticipate the needs of the operating list.
- Carry out preoperative checks and participate in all parts of the WHO surgical checklist.
- Assist anaesthetists in the administration of anaesthesia and the monitoring of patients throughout the perioperative period.
- Maintain accurate documentation of anaesthetic interventions, patient responses, and vital signs, alert to any potential emergencies or patient deterioration.
- Ensure a safe and sterile environment in the operating theatre, adhering to infection control protocols and best practices.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and members of the surgical team to provide support and reassurance throughout the surgical journey maintaining the patient’s privacy and dignity.
- Assisting with safe positioning of the patient, paying attention to pressure points and mindful of surgical length and type for warming and DVT prophylaxis.
- React promptly to emergency calls and demonstrate confidence in effectively handling urgent situations, following protocols.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of patient care plans and protocols.
- Stay updated on advancements in anaesthetic nursing practice and participate in continuing education and professional development activities, mentoring new and junior staff.
- Work collaboratively with the healthcare team and consultants to ensure preference cards are current and accurate.
- Managing inventory of anaesthetic consumables and medications, including procurement, forecasting departmental requirements, and preparing the theatre for upcoming procedures.
- Actively participate in quality assessment and performance improvement activities to include audits and operate with a conscientious approach towards expenses.
- Adhere to professional code of conduct.
- Manage your own time effectively. Ensuring all mandatory training is kept up to date, use initiative to contribute to smooth running of the department.
What You’ll Bring:
- Registered Operating Department Practitioners with current HCPC registration or Registered Nurse with recognised anaesthetic course (essential)
- A minimum of 1 year post registration experience in a theatre setting (essential)
- Current BLS certification (essential) ILS or ALS certification (desirable)
- Experience in providing recovery care to patients having undergone all aspects of anaesthesia, including sedation, local or general anaesthesia, and regional blocks (desirable)
- Experience of working in pre-operative setting with responsibility for pre-operative assessment, cannulation and preparation for patients for surgery (desirable)
- Recognised sedation course and experience in administering and monitoring patients for conscious sedation (desirable)
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with consultants and other health professionals.
- Participate fully as a team member, sharing knowledge and information and supporting colleagues to promote a cohesive team.
