About One View Commerce
Retailers with thousands of shops have had two options, and neither is good. Web-native platforms move fast but were never built for a shop floor.
Legacy store systems were built for the shop floor but take a year to change anything.
One View Commerce is the third option: a headless commerce platform for physical retail that lets the world's largest retailers innovate just as quickly as the smaller ones.
We ship store experiences that deploy fast out of the box, and we give retailers the freedom to build their own on top of a headless transaction engine engineered for the physical store rather than the browser.
Our customers are global retailers who build on One View because it lets them keep moving:
new journeys, new channels, and new store formats ship continuously rather than waiting on the next multi-year programme.
Founded in 2010 to close the gap between fast-moving e-commerce and slow-moving in-store systems, One View's founding principle is a single view of customers, orders, and inventory throughout the shopping journey.
That remains our mission as we enable retailers to deliver exceptional store experiences that build loyalty.
We are a remote-first team with Viewers working across the globe, and we operate as a trusted provider of digital commerce systems for leading retailers.
Position Summary
One View is looking for an experienced Product Manager to own the vision, strategy, and backlog for the store experience: the front-end applications that store personnel use to serve customers, take payment, manage cash, handle stock, and get through a shift.
Reporting to the Chief Product Officer, this Product Manager owns the store experience for the front-end development team building it.
The retail estates we build for encompass thousands of stores, so decisions made in this role change what tens of thousands of store colleagues around the world do every shift.
The store experience is where our platform meets the person serving the customer, so the role starts with the user.
You will plan and run research with store associates and managers, form a clear point of view about what the store actually needs, translate that into design direction a UX designer can act on, and then write the specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria that turn it into shipped software.
You will be supported by a UX designer, and you will be the person who knows what the design has to achieve and why.
This is a role for someone both experienced and confident enough to set direction and argue for it in front of head office business and technology leaders, and still willing to get their hands dirty in the backlog.
You will decide without waiting for consensus, and own the outcome either way.
We are also looking for someone who wants to improve how we build, not only what we build.
We use AI throughout our day-to-day work and expect you to find uses for it we have not thought of.
We also expect you to be able to do this job well if it were switched off tomorrow, because the creativity, judgment, and relationships that make the work good are yours rather than the tool's.
Responsibilities
- Own the product vision and strategy for the store experience, and keep it aligned with the commercial objectives and the revenue that those store journeys carry.
- Plan and run user research with store personnel: store visits, observation, interviews, usability testing, and post-release feedback.
Turn what you find into evidence that changes the backlog.
- Translate research findings into clear design direction for the UX designer: the problem to solve, the users and journeys affected, the constraints that apply, and the outcome the design has to achieve.
- Manage the backlog: create and prioritise epics and user stories, define acceptance criteria, and keep a ready, prioritised queue ahead of the team.
- Rank work with stakeholders by value and return on investment, and re-cut priorities during the sprint when progress or circumstances change.
- Define the interface requirements between the front-end store experience and the platform services behind it, working with solution architects, integration leads, and platform engineers.
- Represent the store user in every forum where the experience is decided, including design reviews, architecture discussions, and governance forums.
- Ensure that Scrum team deliverables meet agreed standards for quality and non-functional requirements, with particular attention to accessibility, performance on store hardware, and behaviour when connectivity drops.
- Own the release plan for the store experience, and set expectations for when new functionality lands.
- Update or draft the documentation for every feature at the moment it ships, across functional descriptions, technical documentation, release notes, and training material.
- Coordinate dependencies with other development teams, platform teams, and third parties whose work the store experience relies on, and surface conflicts early.
- Required skills & Experience
- 3+ years as a Product Manager or Product Owner on customer-facing or associate-facing software. Point of sale, self-service, or store operations experience strongly preferred.
- Has owned product vision and strategy, and writes user stories and acceptance criteria personally.
- Decisive, and right most of the time. Owns the calls that go badly, spots them early, and adjusts. We do not decide by committee.
- Has planned and run research with real users in their own working environment, and can name the product changes it produced.
- Reads wireframes, prototypes, and design systems fluently, and briefs a designer precisely enough that the first design comes back close to right.
- Understands how a store actually runs, from staffing pressure to queues to peak trading, and designs for the user under pressure rather than the ideal one.
- Communicates credibly with a store associate and a head office technology leader on the same day. Takes technical critique on the merits, without ego.
- Writes testable, complete, unambiguous acceptance criteria that account for adjacent features, integrations, and existing platform behaviour.
- Sound grasp of cloud-native, API-first architecture and how a headless front end consumes platform services, enough to judge the cost of a requirement before committing to it.
- Defends a backlog ranking to the people funding it.
- Has run a dependency tracker that the rest of the delivery actually used, spanning internal teams and external suppliers.
- Stands behind the documentation they ship, and catches drift between what shipped and what it says.
- Can do all of this unaided. AI tooling is expected, but the judgement behind the strategy, the stories, and the acceptance criteria must be their own.
- Preferred skills & Experience
- Has personally identified, designed, tested, and implemented an improvement to the practice of product management, and can show that it made the requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria handed to their teams significantly better.
- Treats the quality of what reaches the team as something to be engineered rather than a matter of personal diligence.
Has built the assets that make that repeatable, for example prompt sets, story and acceptance criteria patterns, traceability checks, or review passes that catch ambiguity, gaps, and untested edge cases before a developer ever meets them.
- Experience delivering against a formal accessibility conformance obligation, for example WCAG 2.1 or 2.2 at level AA.
- Experience shipping the same experience across several device form factors and operating systems, for example a fixed desktop, a handheld device, and a self-service unit.
- Experience on a product where design approval sits with the customer, so direction has to be agreed rather than asserted.
- Time spent working in a store, or in a field role supporting stores, at any point in a career.
- Why One View
Alongside the global retailers we already serve, we have just been selected by one of the largest store networks in the world to replace their legacy store system, and are actively pursuing more of the retailers who have decided that decades of accumulated inertia is a problem worth solving properly. The person in this role will be on that work from the start.
Work of that size only moves quickly in a company built for it.
Ours is.
Our teams operate with real independence and the authority to set their own direction.
Nobody here waits to be told what the priority is, and nobody needs a committee's permission to fix something that is plainly broken.
We are always looking to change, to evolve, and to accelerate, and we do not merely encourage our people to identify what should be done differently; we expect it of them.
When they do, they have the support of their team and of leadership to make the change stick.
If you have spent time in a larger organisation where you could see improvement opportunities clearly and never got the room to implement them, that is the frustration we are built to remove.
We are looking for people who find that prospect exciting.
If you would rather be handed a roadmap than build one, this will not be the right fit.
We're building a team that does great work and enjoys doing it, and it shows: One View has been named one of Built In's Best Places to Work for three years in a row.
Our leadership team brings decades of experience across software development, delivery, sales, and marketing, so the independence comes with people who know the terrain and will back your judgement.
Join us as we work with global retail leaders to innovate everything.
