This role is to provide health, personal care and educational support to a Year 7 student with spina bifida and hydrocephalus who attends her local OSG campus five days per week. The student is wheelchair dependent and requires safe manual handling for transfers, as well as intermittent urinary catheterisation twice daily. She also has a diagnosis of ASD and may become overwhelmed at times, requiring sensitive and skilled emotional regulation support. We are seeking a calm, confident and compassionate person who can build a trusting relationship with the student, supporting her learning and meeting her physical, emotional and social development needs. There may also be occasions where the role involves supporting other students with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), where appropriate and directed by the school.
Skills & Experience
- To provide 1:1 support for a Year 7 student with physical and medical needs related to spina bifida and hydrocephalus, and who also has ASD.
- To coordinate and deliver education, healthcare and therapeutic support, working collaboratively with the KS3 lead, subject teachers, SENDCo and relevant external professionals.
- To assist with safe manual handling, daily catheterisation and implementation of a physiotherapy programme devised by a private physiotherapist.
- To support learning and teaching across the curriculum, particularly for pupils with SEND.
- To assist in planning, review and delivery of the curriculum (either as 1:1 or small groups).
