We are recruiting a Quality Engineer (Data) to be responsible for ensuring the quality of OSB Group’s data platform, pipelines, and reporting systems. Working within the Quality Engineering chapter, this role validates data accuracy, completeness, and integrity across all data engineering change and development activity. This role can be based from our Chatham or Wolverhampton offices.

What you will be doing?

  • As Quality Engineer you will apply both manual and automated testing techniques to validate complex data flows, ETL pipelines, and analytical outputs.
  • You will work closely with data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to embed quality throughout the data development lifecycle, from requirements through to production validation.
  • Key responsibilities will include:
  • Ensure the quality, accuracy, and integrity of data across OSB Group’s data platform, pipelines, and reporting systems through effective testing practices.
  • Design and execute test cases for ETL pipelines, data transformations, and warehouse changes, using SQL to validate data across source, transit, and target systems.
  • Test and validate data pipelines in Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and Databricks, including transformation logic, orchestration, and outputs.
  • Identify, log, and manage data defects, providing clear analysis and working closely with engineering teams to support resolution.
  • Contribute to test planning, including test strategies, test cases, and execution of integration, regression, and UAT activities.
  • Support the development of automated data validation using SQL, Python, or frameworks such as Great Expectations or dbt.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to define testable requirements and embed quality throughout the lifecycle.
  • Adhere to data governance and regulatory requirements, ensuring secure handling of data and alignment with compliance standards.

Do you have the skills?

  • Experience working in a data testing, data QA, or quality engineering role with a data focus.
  • Understanding and experience of data testing techniques including ETL testing, reconciliation, and data validation.
  • Proven experience validating data across ETL pipelines, data warehouses, and reporting layers.
  • Strong SQL skills for querying and validating complex datasets.
  • Experience identifying, logging, and managing data defects using test management tools (Jira, BrowserStack, Azure DevOps).
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage workload across multiple tasks and priorities.
