Our payments platforms are critical to that mission — enabling secure, resilient and innovative customer journeys in a highly regulated environment. We are currently looking for a Payments Principal Engineer to play a pivotal leadership role across our payments and core banking technology landscape. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong people and delivery leadership, shaping how we design, build and run payment solutions across the Group. Working closely with senior technology and value stream leaders, and reporting to the Group Head of Engineering, you’ll help define strategy while actively driving end-to-end delivery to ensure our payment platforms are secure, scalable and future-ready. These roles can be based from our Wolverhampton, Chatham or London office and will require occasional travel between all OSB Group locations.

What you will be doing?

As a Payments Principal Engineer, you will lead the design, delivery, and operation of our payments ecosystem, covering Faster Payments, BACS, CHAPS, cards, Open Banking, and mobile wallets. This is a hands-on role and will require you to be comfortable with 'doing the doing' as well as leading. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting and executing the engineering strategy for the payments domain
  • Leading the design, build, and operation of resilient, high-performing payments platforms
  • Owning end-to-end technical delivery, including architecture, development, testing, deployment, and live operations
  • Providing hands-on leadership across full-stack engineering teams, driving best practices in quality, automation, and cloud-first engineering
  • Overseeing integration with UK payment schemes and core banking platforms (including Mambu)
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance and operational resilience across all payments services
  • Partnering with product, architecture, and business teams to translate customer and regulatory requirements into scalable solutions
  • Managing supplier and partner relationships to ensure delivery meets organisational standards

What's in it for you?

Base salary between £90,000 - £110,000 dependant upon experience. Enhanced family-focused benefits. Annual bonus opportunity. 30 days annual leave + bank holidays.
