About the team

At OSB Group, technology underpins how we serve our customers and support sustainable growth across our specialist savings and lending brands. Our payments platforms are critical to that mission — enabling secure, resilient and innovative customer journeys in a highly regulated environment. We’re looking for a Principal Engineer (Payments) to play a pivotal leadership role across our payments and core banking technology landscape. This role combines deep technical expertise with strong people and delivery leadership, shaping how we design, build and run payment solutions across the Group. Working closely with senior technology and value stream leaders, and reporting to the Group Head of Technical Delivery, you’ll help define strategy while actively driving end-to-end delivery to ensure our platforms are secure, scalable and future-ready. The role can be based from our Wolverhampton, Chatham or London office and will require occasional travel between all OSB Group locations.

What you will be doing?

As a Principal Engineer you’ll provide hands-on technical leadership across engineering teams delivering and operating our payments platforms, including Faster Payments, BACS, CHAPS, cards, Open Banking and mobile wallets. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting and executing the engineering strategy for the payments domain, aligned to OSB Group’s technology and business objectives
  • Leading the design, build and operation of modern payments platforms, ensuring regulatory compliance, performance and resilience
  • Owning end-to-end technical delivery, including architecture, development, testing, deployment, change governance and live operations
  • Providing hands-on technical leadership across full-stack engineering teams, with a strong focus on quality, automation and cloud-first design
  • Overseeing integrations with UK payment schemes and core banking platforms, including Mambu
  • Partnering with product, architecture and business stakeholders to translate customer and regulatory needs into robust technical solutions
  • Managing supplier and partner relationships to ensure delivery meets OSB standards

What's in it for you?

Base salary between £90,000 - £110,000 dependant upon experience. Enhanced family-focused benefits. Annual bonus opportunity up to 25%. 30 days annual leave + bank holidays.
