About the team
The Operations Assurance Development team sits within the 1.5 Line of Defence and supports the ongoing development and oversight of the first line control environment across Operations. The team works closely with operational areas to help ensure risks and controls are understood, appropriately managed and aligned to regulatory and business expectations. The function consists of five officers reporting into the Senior Operations Assurance Development Manager, supporting activities including control testing, assurance reviews and wider risk and control improvement activity. Working alongside Operations and Risk teams, the function helps promote a strong and consistent control environment.
What you will be doing?
In this brand new role, you will have the opportunity to support the strengthening of the 1st line control environment through independent risk identification and assessment, control testing and assessing control effectiveness (operating or design), establishing root cause of control failures and assisting in establishing action management plans when risks and controls are outside of the Group’s Operational Risk appetite. You will work closely with Operational Risk and the Operational teams to ensure risks are appropriately identified, managed and controlled in line with the Group Risk Management Framework and risk appetite. Joining The Group and team at an exciting point of transformation you will be able to support the creation of effective control design and increasing use of automated and system‑enabled controls.
Your responsibilities will include…
- Risk Assessment & Control Testing: Conducting Risk assessments across Group Operations to establish inherent and residual risk ratings. Assessing control design and operating effectiveness, identifying whether controls are appropriately designed and operating as intended to mitigate risk. Performing testing of material controls, operated within the first line of defence, in line with Provision 29 requirements.
- Action Management Oversight: Supporting the review of action management plans to ensure actions address the underlying root cause of issues. Monitoring progress of open actions and support timely completion.
- Risk Reporting: Supporting the preparation of MI relating to control testing outcomes, risk events and remediation activity. Contributing to thematic analysis across control testing results and risk events.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Working collaboratively with operational teams to promote strong risk management practices. Providing constructive challenge while maintaining a supportive and solutions-focused approach.

Do you have the skills?
Previous experience in Operational Risk, roles within financial services is essential. Previous experience in conducting control testing in 1LoD is essential. Strong understanding of risk and control frameworks such as RCSA, control testing and risk event management is essential. Ability to demonstrate positive working relationships with key stakeholders is essential.
