We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Medical Secretary to join our friendly and dedicated team at Minehead Medical Centre.
Main duties of the job
This is a key role within the Practice, supporting clinicians and helping to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of patient care. You will work as part of a close-knit administrative team in a welcoming, community-focused environment. As Medical Secretary, you will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the service.

Job responsibilities
- Accurate and timely typing of referral letters, including urgent referrals and GP dictations
- Managing patient and service-related enquiries and liaising with internal and external providers
- Using digital dictation software and the NHS eReferral (Choose & Book) system
- Summarising and coding relevant information from patients clinical records in line with Practice protocols
- Maintaining patient records and files, managing telephone calls and supporting general office procedures
- You may also be required to provide occasional reception cover during periods of leave, sickness or increased demand.
- You will project a professional, positive and friendly image to patients and visitors, whether in person or over the telephone.

Experience
- Previous experience as a Medical Secretary or within NHS / General Practice
- Experience using EMIS and the NHS eReferral system (Choose & Book)
- Experience with digital dictation systems (e.g. Lexacom)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong administrative skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent communication skills and a professional, patient-centred approach
