Design Assistant in East London | Full-Time | On-Site | £23K-£25K Per Annum Gross Salary
This is not a traditional teaching assistant role. At ONELAB, we are redefining education for neurodivergent young people aged 16–25. We believe education should be creative, practical, ambitious, and connected to the real world. Our learners do not simply study. They design. They make. They create. They solve problems. They build products. They develop confidence, independence, and real-world skills. Everything we do is built around one philosophy: Design > Make > Sell.
We're looking for a Design Assistant who wants to help make that happen:
- Someone who believes in the power of creativity.
- Someone who sees potential where others see barriers.
- Someone who wants to help young people build meaningful futures.
About ONELAB: ONELAB College exists to provide a different kind of education. We specialise in supporting young people with SEND through project-based, creative, and enterprise-focused learning experiences. Our ambition is simple: To help learners develop the confidence, capability, and independence needed to thrive in life, employment, and enterprise.
The Opportunity: As a Design Assistant, you will work alongside our Course Leads to support learners through creative projects, studio-based learning, enterprise activities, and industry-inspired experiences. This role sits at the heart of the learner experience. You will help learners:
- Develop their own ideas and creative concepts.
- Build design and technical skills.
- Gain confidence in their abilities.
- Strengthen independence and resilience.
- Create work they are genuinely proud of.
- Progress towards employment, enterprise, and adult life.
You will also help create studios that are inspiring, structured, creative, professional, calm, and purposeful. This role is about far more than supporting sessions; it is about helping young people discover what they are capable of.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Supporting learners during creative and practical studio activities.
- Helping learners develop their own designs, products, and projects.
- Supporting project delivery from concept through to final outcomes.
- Creating and adapting learner resources.
- Applying inclusive approaches to support individual learner needs.
- Supporting learners with Adobe Creative Cloud and other creative tools.
- Assisting with exhibitions, showcases, enterprise projects, and production activities.
- Maintaining organised, professional, and engaging studio environments.
- Supporting learner progress, portfolios, and project outcomes.
Who We're Looking For: You'll thrive in this role if you are:
- Creative and solution-focused.
- Organised and proactive.
- Calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent.
- Professional and reliable.
- Passionate about supporting young people with SEND.
- Comfortable taking initiative and ownership.
- Excited by design, creativity, and project-based learning.
Most importantly, you believe young people with SEND are capable of far more than society often expects.
Why Join ONELAB? Because this is an opportunity to be part of something different. You'll join a team that is ambitious about learner outcomes, committed to high standards, and passionate about building a new model of education. You'll have the opportunity to:
- Make a genuine difference to young people's lives.
- Work within a creative and innovative environment.
- Contribute to meaningful projects and real-world outcomes.
- Grow professionally alongside a talented team.
- Help shape the future of creative SEND education.
We are looking for people who want to build something meaningful, not simply maintain it. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today.
