Job Description

Now Hiring: Industrial Design Assistant

ONELAB | Tower Hamlets, East London

Freelance | Term Time Only | In Person | Ideal for Early Career Designers

You didn’t study industrial design to make pretty objects.

You studied it to make things better. Fairer. More human.

Now is your chance to put that passion into action.

ONELAB is a pioneering college-design studio hybrid for young creatives with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). We are looking for an Industrial Design Assistant to join our dynamic and purpose driven team.

This is not a typical graduate job.

This is your chance to shape what inclusive design education can look like.

To be in the room where creativity meets care — and watch real futures take shape, one sketch, one prototype, one learner at a time.

💡 What is ONELAB?

ONELAB is a specialist creative college based in Tower Hamlets, supporting young people aged 16 to 25 with SEND to explore design, build confidence, and earn UAL accredited qualifications, through a curriculum rooted in experimentation, empathy and real world relevance.

We are not a traditional college, nor a traditional design studio.

We are something entirely new.

A space where young people who have often been pushed aside come to find their voice, their tools, and their power — through design.

🔍 The Role

We are looking for a passionate early career designer — a recent graduate in industrial, product or 3D design — who is ready to roll up their sleeves, get into the workshop, and support young people as they turn ideas into reality.

This is a freelance, term time only, in person role, Monday to Friday, based at our light filled college-studios in East London.

🛠️ You’ll Be Doing Things Like…

  • Supporting learners in model making, sketching, CAD and hands on prototyping
  • Introducing materials, tools and techniques in a way that feels safe, empowering and engaging
  • Helping deliver real world briefs focused on identity, access, inclusion and user needs
  • Working alongside educators and creatives to bring learner ideas to life
  • Modelling creative confidence — showing learners that process matters more than perfection
  • Helping to create a studio culture grounded in experimentation, reflection and care

🌱 We’d Love to Hear From You If You Are…

  • A recent graduate in industrial design or product design
  • Skilled in hands on making, model building and creative problem solving
  • Familiar with Fusion 360, Rhino, SolidWorks or other design software
  • Passionate about inclusive, socially responsible design
  • A clear communicator who supports others with encouragement and care
  • Eager to grow as part of a team reimagining what design can do

Why This Role Is Special

This isn’t just another step on your career path.

This is a chance to build something that truly matters.

You’ll be using your creativity to help young people uncover their potential, believe in their ideas, and see themselves as designers of their own futures.

And in doing so, you’ll be part of reimagining what education can be — human, inclusive, and full of possibility.

If you want your work to mean something, this is the place to begin.
