We’re looking for someone who lives and breathes design, loves working with people, and wants to put their talent to work making a real difference. This is not your typical education role — this is your chance to inspire a generation of neurodiverse creatives, empower voices often unheard, and co-create with purpose.
What You’ll Be DoingAs a Design Assistant, you’ll work closely with our Instructors to support learners aged 16–25 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) as they explore design, digital media, and entrepreneurship. You’ll be a key part of their creative and educational journey, helping them build confidence, skills, and independence through imaginative, hands-on learning.
- Be a creative catalyst, guiding learners through projects in design and digital media.
- Help deliver exciting, learner-led content with flexibility and flair.
- Be a motivator, mentor, and creative problem-solver — cheering learners on as they unlock their own unique brilliance.
- Support the use of tech and media tools to elevate learning experiences.
- Bring your design thinking skills to the classroom and beyond.
- A creative person with qualifications (and passion!) in design, digital media, or a related field.
- Deeply inspired by social impact and inclusive design.
- Eager to work with neurodiverse learners and help them thrive.
- Confident using creative tools and tech — from Adobe to iPads.
- Open-minded, full of energy, and endlessly curious.
- A collaborator who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven team.
- Co-creating design activities that ignite imagination and self-expression.
- Supporting learners with project development — from concept to creation.
- Helping students use design software, digital tools, and physical materials.
- Encouraging independence and celebrating wins, big or small.
- Contributing to exhibitions, showcases, and digital storytelling.
- Getting involved in creative workshops, visits, or community design projects.
- Helping shape learning plans and strategies based on individual needs.
- Working closely with the Instructors to adapt sessions to learner responses.
- Using innovative methods to keep learners engaged and motivated.
- Supporting assessment and documentation (RARPA – we’ll train you!).
- Participating in creative planning, staff meetings, and design reviews.
- Helping learners navigate challenges in and out of the classroom.
- Ensuring all learning environments are inspiring, inclusive, and safe.
We’re not just a college — we’re a creative movement. At ONELAB, we believe design can change the world. We’re reimagining education for young people with SEND by embedding creativity, self-belief, and social mission into every part of our work.
When you join ONELAB, you become part of:
- A visionary team committed to radical inclusion.
- A culture that celebrates ideas, experimentation, and progress.
- A mission to remove barriers and reimagine the future — one young person at a time.
We take our responsibilities seriously. You’ll play an important role in promoting:
- A culture of respect, safety, and positive behaviour.
- Diversity, equity, and anti-discrimination (as outlined in the Equalities Act 2010).
- Learner wellbeing, self-regulation, and emotional development.
- Training in safeguarding, first aid, and SEND approaches will be provided.
