An established residential groundworks and civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Freelance Health & Safety Advisor to support multiple live construction sites across Essex and Cambridgeshire. The successful candidate will work closely with site management teams to ensure compliance with current health, safety and environmental legislation, while promoting a positive safety culture throughout all operations. Experience within civil engineering or construction is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out regular site inspections and audits across multiple projects
  • Monitor compliance with company health & safety procedures and statutory regulations
  • Provide practical health & safety guidance to site teams and subcontractors
  • Produce detailed inspection reports and corrective action plans
  • Assist with accident, incident and near-miss investigations
  • Support site teams with RAMS reviews and implementation
  • Ensure high standards of housekeeping and safe systems of work are maintained
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings where required
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance and site documentation
  • Liaise with operational teams to drive continuous improvement in safety performance
  • Support preparation for external audits and client inspections
  • Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and relevant HSE guidance

Requirements

  • Previous experience within residential groundworks or civil engineering
  • Strong working knowledge of UK construction health & safety legislation
  • Experience conducting site audits and inspections
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to work independently across multiple sites
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate
  • Tech IOSH / Grad IOSH membership
  • Temporary Works or Streetworks awareness
  • Experience working with national housebuilders
  • First Aid qualification
